The last bit of integrity and decency in the GOP died with McCain.
It has been mentioned before, but the media is a big part of enabling someone like Trump to happen.
Yep. It’s a particular obsession of mine. :/ Sam Wang with some insightful observations (it’s a twitter thread, sorry twitter haters):
Edit: Rick Wilson gets to the point
Yes, we should totally believe that Murkowski and Collins were going to vote to convict but then Schiff screwed the pooch by being mean to them.

You know what they say about calling people Nazis.
Funny how the unrespectable media is the only one who calls it “supposed”, knowing it’s just what half the people read, while the serious WaPo just wraps the soundbyte in a nice twittable package.
Oh give them some credit now – Eisenhower, really.

Are any of you fine people going to listen to the GOP defense and report to your fine friends at Qt3 so that we don’t have to listen?
I’ll read some stuff if it is anything but smears and attempts to spread FUD. If there are actual facts and discussion of the evidence, sure.

I’m mainly interested to see the difference in coverage on Fox between this and the house managers.
Heh autocorrect says that’s called the covfefe difference.
I’ll have CNN on during their defense, how much I actually listen is another question.

Daniel Dale is tweeting some coverage, probably enough for me: https://twitter.com/ddale8

Folks really should do their duty as Americans and watch both sides, for yourselves. Otherwise we’re just as bad as Fox viewers, only accepting stuff through a friendly partisan filter.
It’s the third impeachment of a president in the history of our country. This shit is important. This is a major moment in history. You should watch it for yourself.

I mean, it’s a fair point, but I’m gonna fail my sanity check if I have to hear them shouting “Where’s the whistleblower?” for twenty-four hours.

I’m not going to listen to people who don’t listen to any views other than their own because they’re bad people for not listening to people with different viewpoints.

Fair point, but at the same time I feel like I had my fill during the House investigation. I never really heard any dispute of the facts, just industrial-scale moving of goalposts and variations of “When you’re the President, they let you do it”.
In the Clinton impeachment trial, I wasn’t paying too much attention except for when the trial was happening and I was in the car listening to NPR. I first heard the prosecution, and what they were saying made sense, it sounded like he should be impeached. But then I heard the defense, and it was riveting. One time I went to the golf course with my brother and his friend, and it was a long drive to get there, and we were listening to the defense all the way there. We got to the golf course and none of us moved. We all just sat there in the car for another 2 hours just listening to the radio because they were dissecting every argument in such a meticulous way.
I have to admit, I’ve only been listening to this trial the same way so far. Whenever I’m in the car, and NPR has it on, I listen. And this time the prosecution has been as meticulous as the Clinton defense was, going over the events in a methodical way.
I’ll keep listening and see if the defense here can meticulously somehow dissect every argument and timeline presented by the prosecution the way the Clinton defense did. I’m open to changing my mind again like I did in that trial, but it does seem unlikely this time, since I was actually paying attention this time to what went on in the house, and the defense didn’t really have good arguments in the house.
I heard some flack for the administration on the radio this morning talk about how there wasn’t an EXPLICIT quid pro quo laid out in the July 25th phone call per the (not a) transcript, ergo it was perfect, q.e.d.
I mean, everyone knows that if you don’t name the crime you’re committing while doing it, it never happened, obvs. Just like when mobsters in the movies say “nice place ya got here, shame if something was to happen to it,” they’re blameless if they don’t add “BTW, this is extortion, just so we’re clear!”
If this is the quality of the arguments they have in store…
