I think you have it slightly backwards. Biden didn’t leverage his name for the job. Burisma sought out Biden for his name.
Corporate boards often have nothing to do with running the company and are simply about having big names to use for connections and name dropping.
But, seriously, this is how bad things are - not whether any Republicans will even consider voting against trump but whether they will vote to have a proper trial (spoiler: they won’t.)
Imagine if Democrats tried anything like this - it would be wall-to-wall “Democratic Cover Up!” in every major news outlet.

No, he just assumes, as all Republicans do, that only Republican rule is legitimate. Only Republicans can appoint Supreme Court judges, only Republicans can impeach presidents, etc.

This is exactly correct. It was virtue signaling on Burisma’s part, a way of saying to the world, “Past corruption has been addressed and now we are entirely on the level, so much so that we now have a Biden on our board.”
You could argue that accepting the role, which was offered solely because his father was VP, was ethically gray but, compared to the shit we see Trumps kids getting up to, it’s downright quaint.

Predictably, Republicans are outraged at Hunter Biden getting such a position based on his name. In an administration where Jared is running Middle East policy and the rest of the Trump Dumplings have burrowed like ticks into the White House. I know any sort of logic or reason or rationality has long since fled the Republican party, but I seriously cannot fathom the cognitive dissonance required to hold these beliefs (and hold them so strongly). It’s scary, frankly.

Most of the Republicans i know, and I’m being honest, are convinced that the Trump family are doing everything “gratis”, so therefore it’s completely ok. These are the same people who swear Trump is giving away his salary every year because he doesn’t need it, who thinks Trump really is a billionaire, and who start screaming about emails or Obama’s book deal whenever you mention the government paying for Trump’s hotels.

In truth, the hunter biden stuff is totally shady. He was hired solely to gain influence with his father. There’s little about that which is in dispute.
It doesn’t excuse any of Trump’s bullshit though. It’s certainly not the most corrupt thing in the world, or even Ukraine. Trump’s focus on Biden is purely the result of Trump’s corrupt abuse of power to go after his opponents.
