Yep; the end vote was decided before this ever began. It’s just a matter of political theater in terms of how bad they can make it look for the electorate’s “viewing pleasure.” If anything has shown how effective repetition can be, it’s Trump’s campaign.

He exists in a super-state between witness and defense lawyer so that he can simultaneously claim he is not a member of the defense team and just giving an impartial opinion but that he is also not acting as a witness because witnesses have not been allowed.

Nadler just ripped one up taking about whether high crimes and misdemeanors needed to be crimes, pointing out that bribery is specifically listed, but was not actually a federal crimes until 1836, so they clearly intended for people to be impeached even without committing crimes.
He summarized it as such, “impeachment is not a punishment. Impeachment is done to protect the republic from a president abusing his power and entrenching himself in office.”
Deshowitz has such an objectively bad take on this issue.
