It’s in the public interest to jail political opponents. They could affect your attempts to get reelected.
Finally someone else on this damn board has seen the light

Dersh has made a really strong argument here for an investigation into Trump’s children.

They asked “If Obama had evidence that Mitt Romney’s son was making $1 million a year from a corrupt Russian company for favors from Romney, would it be an impeachable offense for Obama to ask for an inestigation of it?”
After pointing out that it was not an analogous situation since Joe Biden hadn’t done anything but tighten the pressure on Burisma, Schiff said that of course it would be an impeachable offense for the President to use his power to ask for an investigation of his political rival.

That’s an amazingly dumb question to ask.

As long as they believe it’s in the best interest of the country, it’s fine! They can’t impeach then for that.
That’s, literally, the argument that Deshowitz made on the floor of the Senate today. It was one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen a lawyer say.
NY Times:
“Trump’s lawyers offer expansive defense”

There’s a CNN story that Roberts refused to read a question from Rand Paul which named the whistleblower.
And that’s a wrap. Welcome to trump America: L’État, c’est moi. ^
Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) told NBC News says the GOP’s plan would be to move to immediately acquit President Trump on Friday night if in fact the U.S. Senate votes against calling additional witnesses.
The Hill: “It was clear to Senate Republicans on Wednesday after a morning meeting between Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) that the question of having additional witnesses is settled, and the Senate will vote Friday to wrap up the impeachment trial of President Trump.”
^(For the ignorant like me, apparently this isn’t an actual King Louis XIV quote.)

Well, now the Senate is complicit in the cover-up as well, let them own it. Now we’ll see if voters give a damn and if we have fair elections in November. I’m guessing not, Trump has full immunity and free rein now and I don’t know why another whistleblower is going to risk their career and potentially their life to bring anything else to light.
Sorry, I don’t mean to sound overly pessimistic, I’m just really worried.

There’s no cause for hope. We already know the Republicans are erasing people (yes, mostly black people) from registered voter lists as fast as they can. There’s Facebook and the electoral college. And now (well, in a day or two) the Senate has told Trump he can do anything he wants to fix the election.
Hell, he could cancel the election. According to the president’s lawyers, that would be legal, and the Senate agrees.

I feel ya Kevin. I was going to post a rant on Facebook but:
- I barely use FB and so only have 2 dozen friends there.
- I realized it would just get me angry.
- I don’t have the energy to argue with the handful of people who I would otherwise thing of decent people. It’s not like anything I say would change their minds.
Instead I’ll go on my rowing machine.
I mean, yeah, basically that’s what the argument boils down to. Welcome to autocracy!

So instead of the Republican traitors going against the wall, its us. Will the last one to go turn off the light please.
Remember, we all knew it would end this way.
Look at the upside. If shit really goes south, we can all be part of …
… THE RESISTANCE. Which, if I remember my '80s TV correctly, is kinda fun.
