Word is Alexander is a No on further evidence.
Fucking retiring nearly 80 year-old is basically saying “Fuck more time with my grandkids and great grandkids, I wanna stay ‘relevant’ in the GOP.”
IN HIS DEFENSE, however, it sounds like his statement at least acknowledged that the call was not “perfect” and that the House’s evidence was convincing.

I guess now the hope is that Lisa decides she wants to hear from witnesses and then Roberts decides to intervene and break the 50-50 tiebreak in favour of witnesses?
Of course, something tells me that Lisa is only ‘undecided’ because the GOP want to make sure everything will be squared away before they let her publicly say yes on witnesses.
Honestly, part of what Alexander said made total sense: there’s not much point calling more witnesses to verify something that has already been proven. But how this does not precede a call for removal is astonishing.

I can’t say I’d shed a tear if they did just that. Fuck that guy.

Don’t shed a tear for Bolton, shed one for the republic and the rule of law.
Holy shit. I’ve been traveling and missed the past two days.
I’m a cord cutter. Now I’m in a hotel and see MSNBC, CNN, and FOXNEWS.
I swear they are all basically the same. Evil. Fox News is just ridiculous over the top. The “Democrat” on their panel looks funny … different from the other panelists, including senators.
CNN is way more rational, but includes a republican who looks funny. Bald. It’s more subtle, which is especially evil.
MSNBC doesn’t even try. The reporter on the scene is basically Trump is the devil. No Republican presence. BUT BUT
They showed the current Trump rallly, mentioned that in the freezing cold there was a line for two days, that iphones were reporting tiop decibal limit… and they showed trump in the rally.
He looked like the fucking PR guy in Hunger Games movie. His orange face and funky hair was made up to be a caricature of media and politics and people are eating that shit up.
We’re fucked.

Mate I have no clue what you are talking about. CNN are especially evil because they brought on a bald Republican? MSNBC is evil because it doesn’t even try to pretend that what Trump did was anything less than corruption? Are you saying all networks should give a ‘both sides are equally valid’ angle to all news coverage?
I mean, the networks do have alot of problems but geez. Equal time for climate change denial too?
I glad I’m not the only one who is wondering why the Republic is doomed because there are people deemed to be funny looking in front of the cameras.
Yep. Fight me. The subtle bias in news is far more evil than the obvious stuff.
Please argue that everything the Republican party stands for, through history, is crap and not worth taking into account.
Hell, I vote Democrat and I don’t believe that.

There was a time, 4-5 years ago, when I regularly read what could be considered the intellectual core of conservatism. Places like The Federalist, American Conservative, etc.
I did so not because I was conservative pr Republican, but because there was value in understanding, contemplating, and comparing policies. Both as a means of sharpening my own positions, but also as I saw value in broad understanding of political trends.
No longer today. What value there was has been eroded as any pretense has evaporated, that any intellectual core worth a damn has been either sidelined or corrupted by Trumpism.
What value existed in working with and understanding GOP positions was on life support after the Tea Party wave in 2010, and evaporated in 2016.

You’re making the very strong assumption that CNN and MSNBC acted the same way when Bush was in power, or any previous GOP Presidents before that.
Ok, but honestly I would take CNN over the DPRK’s propaganda news outlet any day. I also feel sorry for all bald members of the forum for being called funny looking. They have it hard enough!
My [perhaps charitable] reading of ankelbiter’s post was that the “funny” looking people were essentially props, like Paul Begala on crossfire.
Or that dude with the glasses that used to be on Hannity’s show.

You can watch on C-SPAN for free on the web (at least, I could, and I’m a cord cutter too) if you just want to see the proceedings with no commentary and no ads.
They do have dumb call-in segments during the breaks, but you don’t have to watch those!

Meanwhile on Anklebiters ideal news source:
“Thousands of scientists today signed a report detailing how climate change and environmental destruction will ruin the planet for your kids and grandkids. In the studio is a lobbyist who has no qualifications, but is not funny looking at all, who will explain why he thinks it’s all a hoax from the Chinese government.”
Alright folks, maybe I’m slow. Trying to figure this shit out.
Fox News started out as a parody. This was the network of the Simpsons and Married with Children. They recognize that existing news was biased as fuck, but subtly, in a way that most people who weren’t trained to recognize it would notice it. AND YES SINCE IT IS TV, LOOKS IS A HUGE PART OF THAT.
Lo and behold, they got ratings. Massive rating. Not for the parody, but as literally, for people being irrationally stupid.
Money pours in. Go with what pays. They have become more and more extreme. I have to believe the people running it believe at some point people will wake up. So they get more extreme. The parody highlights the subtle BS in mainsteam media, and suddenly you have Janet in South Carolina writing in her dating profile “Sheeple need not apply”.
Now who to believe. It’s a big entertainment, and does it really matter anyway? Trump is in office and the economy is great!
We’re fucked.
No Tim. I’m trying to figure out why we are here. Calling Rebuplicans “stupid” and going on a diatribe about that is unproductive.
(I’ve had a few whiskeys. Not sure about Ankle…)
Either parody doesn’t mean what you think, or your knowledge of American politics over the last generation “looks funny” (to the rest of us).
I’m charitably hoping that English isn’t your first language.

Larison at The American Conservative is scathingly critical of the Trump administration.
Just a few examples, all from the last few weeks:
