Rubio has also announced that he is voting against witness and for acquittal because, even though he believes Trump committed impeachable acts, only Republicans have the power of impeachment, and Republicans didn’t impeach Trump, so he won’t vote to convict.
His wording is that it has to be bipartisan, but we know that’s a lie, because then he could vote to convict and it would be bipartisan.
The thing that gets me is how transparent all these lies are. It’s like they don’t even care. I could come up with a plausible-sounding reason to acquit. Something that would take more than a single moment’s though to realize is bullshit. But they can’t be bothered. They’re Republicans, they can do whatever they want.

But he’s no longer a Republican, and the rules are that only Republicans can legitimately impeach/convict. I mean, Sanders isn’t a Democrat either, but his vote doesn’t count as making it bipartisan in the Senate.

At least the vote is delayed until next Wednesday. Wasn’t there some talk earlier in the week of voting to acquire tonight? At least now there’s four more days (plus the weekend talkshows) for Parnas and Bolton to continue to release incriminating info. Make that acquittal vote as ugly as possible for Gardner, Collins, et al.

And Trump decides to do the address to Republicans in the Senate and House at some other venue, it’s covered on all the networks anyway and gets national coverage and scores an easy win in the media on an unforced error.

Just because we don’t have enough hypocrisy from Republicans, I think it’d be amusing if a Democrat stood up and shouted “YOU LIE!” each time Trump starts a “sir” story or talks about the size of his hands/crowds. The pearl clutching would be amazing.
