Fortnite - A New Game by Epic

I know but that’s all they’ve got. :)

Well hand out some more then!

Everybody first night in Minecraft is terrorific.

Sorta like this

Togueter, in the dark, with mosters ouside.

So, the only info out of that video is really:

  1. Building is done with pre-fab parts, not like Minecraft
  2. Encumbrance is a big factor in scavenging, and apparently so are shopping carts
  3. Morgan Webb’s voice would still be best coming from under some blankets in the vicinity of my crotch
  1. Morgan Webb’s voice would still be best coming from under some blankets in the vicinity of my crotch

Shouldn’t you be in the elevator at Goldman Sach’s? HAY-O

I’m currently not involved enough to understand that forum reference.

  1. HAY-O is the sound I’ll be making after said encounter with Morgan Web’s voice under the blankets in the vicinity of my crotch.

edit: By the way, I would love to actually discuss this game, but we still have nearly nothing to go on besides a couple of PR lines and a CGI video.

Yeah, it’s still early. More will come! And we shall discuss…

Gameplay videos please!

I was pretty sad when the second video did not actually contain any new video content, but the interviews told some potentially nice sounding stuff.

We’ve had a few zombies games, but very few (well, none) let you actually throw together some fortifications and try to survive the hordes. Terreria is about the closest, but i would prefer a more… modern looking one to be honest.

Not bad in principle. This means is not a sandbox, but some game with “moving parts” elements.

  1. Encumbrance is a big factor in scavenging, and apparently so are shopping carts

Oh god. Encumbrance is the #2th worst game idea. #1 seems escort missions.

:3

Encumbrance is fitting in a game like this though. It adds risk vs reward to the decision of gathering resources. Do I go back now to be sure i get back before dark or gather more? Do I need to drop some stuff in order to make it back in time or are the extra resources worth the risk?

I wasn’t making a judgment call. I didn’t want a Minecraft zombie game. Pre-fab is what I guessed in my first post in this thread. It makes more sense to have pre-fab parts when you want to create specific game mechanics and animations.

Oh god. Encumbrance is the #2th worst game idea. #1 seems escort missions.

Disagree. I think it’s part of the zombie mythos in gaming to have to be forced to make a decision on what is most important for you to take.

Sorry I’m… totally not with you on this one.

Cool!, we have the basic elements of a Internet discussion: topic, disagreements, internet personae. Yay.

If encumbrance means “I walk very slow”, then bleuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurgh. Theres another way to implement that. Make so stuff has “size”. So if you take a object of size 4 (big), take the space of 4 other elements (small). The same effect, but not having to walk very slowly.

No, it is not the same effect.

It is the same effect if you never carry enough to slow down (or whatever way they handle it) though so if walking slower or whatever bothers you, simply don’t carry that much. A system like this simply allows you to carry more at the cost/risk of some sort of penalty (generally movement speed).

You disagree with me. That can’t be tolerated.

Your turn.

postdata:

I can tolerate that you have a point. My size system have a hard cap. If you have 72 slots, and you have everything occupied, you can’t get more stuff. With your system, if you can get 72KG, you can get 78 KG, but you will walk very slow. What I can’t tolerate is that you made your disagrement public. I am the king of the internet.

postadata 2:

Lets call your system “Murbella Become Fat System And Walk Slow” and my system “Awesome Teiman, Occupy All The Slots”. And let the pleb decide what is the best system. Based on the name alone.

The problem with your system Teiman is that I can carry 72 bottle caps or 72 heavy machine guns. It’s illogical.

I think Tei is talking more about the inventory tetris style (diablo 2 for example). So the bottlecap would take up one box and the heavy machine gun might take up six.

For this type of game though I think that going with weight capacity makes more sense. Especially with the idea that you might have to outrun the critters. Do you take a chance that they’ll catch you since you’re running slower or drop some of your swag and have a better chance at being safe.

OH right, I see. Even then, it’s kind of illogical as things can be small but heavy or large but light. I think a number is easier to represent in a realistic fashion.

I agree. I wonder if it’ll be possible to go back and gather up loot you have to drop or if it poofs overnight.

Also in the trailer one of the critters comes up out of the ground in a shadow, seems hard to defend against. Was that just for effect or are there enemy types that will just be able to pop up through the floor of your base?

I really can’t talk about it yet, sorry. :) It’s still early days and we’re keeping a lot of it under wraps for the time being.

I can’t wait to see some gameplay. Can you give us even a rough idea of when to expect something like that, Warren?
