I haven’t upped the rate of that yet. However, once each 15 minutes, a background task triggers some rebakes and probably causes some performance issues. I’ll ramp it up a bit and keep an eye on performance. I also noticed that edits are slower than posts.

@stusser FWIW, I just 5x’d the rebaking rate so let me know if you notice problems. I notice some mild performance issues, but nothing alarming. I’d love to bump it up higher, if it’s tolerable.

What does any of this mean. Rebaking holy cats

Haha. When you save a post, it gathers your markdown, links, etc… and creates a “baked” HTML version of the post. That helps shorten the rendering time. The problem is that the Content Delivery Network changed, so all of the posts are baked with bad image URLs. We have to rebake them all to get the HTML versions of them updated to use the new image links. The rebaking of 4.7 million posts (or whatever it is) takes a long time.

Seems fine so far. When the rebake kicks off iowait spikes to 25% which is terrible but the multiple unicorns seem to keep the site pretty responsive.

If you guys noticed, yesterday before 2PM when it took like 30+ seconds to make a post, reading the site was still very fast. That’s why you bake posts beforehand.

Everything feels snappier today, indeed.

No more 502 errors today so I’m all good. Thanks Obama! Or Trump! Whoever!

Yeah still seeing a flash of the saving bar occasionally but otherwise much better. Thanks again folks.

Clay 2020!

Nah, it should be @stusser 2020 because many reasons.

Your burlesque and gigolo escorting past would probably help your election chances these days, I would imagine.

Forums seem pretty darn good today. Great job guys!

Things feel slick right now.

Slicker than owl shit on a pump handle.

I would like to withdraw my nomination.

Wouldn’t that be quite lumpy?

I couldn’t say, but in my desire to look it up quick and post something snarky, I instead learned they don’t poop but rather they absorb what nutrients they can and puke the rest back up. So it’s really actually owl vomit. Slicker than owl vomit. Now, how slick it actually is I can’t say.

e: well, I guess they do also poop, they puke up the bones and stuff they can’t digest at all, so the random person I read that wrote that was just an idiot. So, since they puke up the chunks, owl shit is indeed likely very slick.
