Play Republic of Texas on Zachary Taylor

Zacahary Taylor, famous for his role in the Indian Wars, was tired of the relative peace in the United States, as well as being sidelined by the Federalist-National government. A trip to Texas, which was attempting to declare independence from Spain, turned out to quite fruitful for the General. Taylor led a victorious force of Texans, who were able to declare independence in 1809. The remainder of New Spain quickly followed Texas, becoming the independent state of Mexico.

(+2 Popularity to Taylor. Taylor rolls a 5 and survives. Public support shifts one towards the liberal party.)

Remember the Alamo! a little early :)

Indeed. Texas formed before Mexico in this game.

I’m sure ‘declare independance’ would be the way it seemed to the entirely Spanish speaking locals ;)

The Louisiana Purchase and the successful Northwest Indian Wars opened a vast swath of new land for Americans to develop. Along with the new opportunities for farming, mining, and manufacuring came new opportunities for speculation, especially the wealthy and well connected. Speculation proved particularly problematic when the speculators paid the United States in paper currency issues by banks or the states, which frequently lost much of its value as more entered circulation. One solution proposed was the Specie Circular, which would require payment in gold and silver for any land purchased from the United States.

Specie Circular is a difficulty 4 issue for the Secretary of the Treasury. If passed, it shifts public opinion two towards the Liberal party, provides 2IP to the Conservative Leader, and results in a gain of two popularity. Ignoring or failing to resolve Specie Circular results in public support moving one to the Conservative party, 2IP to the Liberal Leader, and -2 popularity.

In addition, Timothy Pickering died at the age of 64, while overseeing work on his farm in Salem, Massachusetts. While Pickering never achieved high office, he is remembered as a dedicated Statesman and model New Englander.

Yeah, well not with Zach there. Its Yellow Rose time. Buy a 10 gallon hat.

RIPickering

We can’t have banks issuing paper money willy-nilly. I appoint JQ Adams secretary of the Treasury and direct him to enact the Specie Circular

JQ Adams accepts Sec of Treasury and will work his magic to pass this in the Congress. Time to vote. @Panzeh

No vote on this one! It is part of the Secretary of the Treasury’s power under the coinage act.
