Hey during my first go-live we had one heart attack, one mental breakdown (no really), and one person just left and never returned. I hear she is doing okay these days. I tell you what, completely failure of the mind or body is what I am looking forward to in my later years at work.
That’s a load of shit, but I will say I hope to continue to generate a bit of income when retired. I want to do something.

In Armando’s case, it would be more of a labor of love.

The government office where I work is full of over 65 people who work for the money, sure, but also because they want to work. There is a guy in his 80’s working in an area near mine and several 70+/-. Now in private industry they may have been moved out, bought out or fired by now.

I mean, hobbies, right? Are they really that interesting? Who wouldn’t rather be at their cushy talking head job, making 6-7 figures? Right?

FOX News host mansplains to the US women’s soccer team why they’re not getting equal pay. Know your place, ladies!
I imagine that whether you work in old age (assuming you financially have a choice) depends on a) whether you like your work, and b) whether you have other ways to occupy your time.

Watters is about as big a tool that Fox has. I am sure his nose has worn a groove in Trump’s ass.

“If you go out and you disparage the president, you act in unpatriotic ways and then complain about not getting paid equally, well, what do you think is going to happen? People are not going to watch,” Watters said.
I’m under the impression a lot of people watched these games, as in… more than the men’s team. I can’t remember where I read that because there is so much content being created for this team right now, Social Media, News… beyond the usual sports’ areas.

As always, you have your “facts,” and FOX News has theirs. Who’s to say what’s true?
Wonder if shitheads like DJT who ‘disparaged the president’ and ‘acted in unpatriotic ways’ also earned derision from Fox news?
I have seen this one a lot

They get paid different if the win/lose? That is weird. That’s kind of a dumb chart as none of that really matters in terms of who should get paid more. What matters is who generates the most revenue, ratings, etc. I believe the answer is still the women which justifies that they should get paid the same if not more than the men but I’m not 100% sure on that.

Professional sports can get a bit thorny. Especially since many leagues have CBA’s that explicitly set team pay as a percentage of league income. So there is certainly many cases where the pay gap is inherent in the financial position of said sport. A top NBA player makes more in a season than all WNBA players combined. And while there is an argument that the share of revenue for the women’s league players is too low (25% compared to the NBA’s ~50%), there is undeniable reality that as it currently stands pay could never be at parity between the two leagues.
Now I don’t know the metrics for soccer. It seems like the popularity edge domestically between women’s and men’s is lower than for other sports. And the pay disparity is pretty stark when you look at that. I mean Mike Trout and Mallex Smith perform the exact same job but don’t get paid the same. And that is frankly ok. This isn’t something with fungible workers, where two people broadly perform the same. And it isn’t one where salaries are fixed by some amount, it’s one where players and agents negotiate, and leagues negotiated with a percentage of revenues. There is no direct analogue to a woman working as a developer for Amazon making less than her male peers.
Basically looking at pure salaries is meaningless and dumb. However if you compared revenues between the men’s and women’s teams and the women’s league isn’t less than 1/4, then the pay gap is indeed bullshit.

The thing is that women are paid less because women are usually paid less. Revenue, ratings, etc, if they are unfavorable with the women’s team (which I doubt) are just another excuse to pay them less, like we’ve always done in this country as a whole. It’s bullshit and needs to stop, across the board. They won the fricking World Cup again and the men’s team didn’t even qualify last time. Pony up and pay the women the same as their underperforming male counterparts. It’s about damn time.
Your argument makes sense for a normal spectator sports league, but this is the World Cup. Like the Olympics, part of the point is national pride; i.e. we’re paying them to beat everyone else in our name. That has value beyond a cold calculation of TV ratings or advertiser dollars. Paying less for a team that consistently wins than one that mostly sucks is unacceptable.

So should a WNBA player get paid the same as an NBA player? Should Mallux Smith get paid the same as Mike Trout?
Now this may be fair. I don’t know how much, and where from, national teams derive their revenues. Something like the olympics where the players are nationally subdivided there is clearly no reason to pay differently. As I don’t follow soccer, I’ve no idea if team revenues are nationally funded or not. If so, then yes absolutely the pay disparity is unjust.
My entire point is that the pay structures for pro sports inherently do not lend themselves to discussions of equal pay for equal jobs.

For me, I’m actually more interested as a spectator in the women’s world cup, because the US team wins, than i am in men’s soccer.
But that is because my interest in soccer is essentially zero.
But it’s not-zero for the women! So they should be paid more if it’s based on my interest level.

I’ll tell you I would more readily be able to recognize members of their team! (My lock screen on my work computer has several members of the USWNT on it due to my company being a sponsor)

Full disclosure, part of my admiration for Rapinoe is based on her answer when asked whether she would go to the White House, “I’m not going to the fucking white House.” and the tone of her voice, as though that was the dumbest question anyone ever asked her.
