The USMNT is supporting equal pay and negotiating for it. I am not going to defend everything they have done but it’s bad journalism to ignore the fact that they have a public statement about it.
Yup. As I don’t follow soccer that’s practically the only thing I know about her. The fact that her comment is somehow controversial goes back to all the “civility” crap that is putting fig leafs on this administration’s odious actions.
It’s amazing, isn’t it? Trump can say whatever shit he wants, mock a reporter’s disability, continue to shit on McCain even after the guy has died, and his supporters don’t care. Someone like Rapinoe makes a critical comment about Trump and its pearl-clutching time.

I am sure someone has mentioned it by now but the money basically comes from the international group that puts together the soccer tournament. What they pay out is based on revenue. Also, the more you win, the more you get paid.
Sport is pretty tricky when it comes to the equal pay argument. Now women’s soccer is very succesfull and probably draws well overseas and a couple matches a year locally, but that same argument can’t be used for every women’s sport. You can’t compare the draw with say, mens/womens basketball. As good as WNBA players are they don’t garner nearly the attention of the men, and in the end it is advertising and ticket sales that pay their salaries.
