Shep Smith (and his lawyers) is not dumb. Either he is going to get paid for a year of time off to be with his family, or he has no non-compete and we’ll see him somewhere else soon.
Cannot wait till DJT’s witty shit tweet on Shep.
Or this is the distraction, and the meeting was actually about getting the talking points straight before Sondland testifies.
He says he asked to leave.
Has a noncompete for at least some period of time.

Some info on New York laws regarding non-compete clauses. I assume that would be the jurisdiction involved.
tl;dr is that they can be upheld in court, but they have to be fair. I imagine six months or one-year non-competes for someone in Shep’s position are not uncommon and would be legal.

I wonder if Chris Wallace is on the chopping block next.
That’s sad because I always hoped that somehow Shepard’s reporting created some doubt in the Fox News bubble among their viewers

Poor Shep. The one guy (maybe Chris Wallace, a bit) I had respect for over there. I know you can look at it as being evil taking a paycheck from Murdoch, but I felt like he used that platform to try to reach viewers buying into the bullshit from the gaggle of Himmlers over there. He frequently called out the bullshit Hannity and others were spewing.
This had to be what the meeting between Murdoch and Barr was about? There’s no reason for those two to meet, and the timing is suspicious.

Uh…no. This is the number from over 10 years ago. Apparently it’s more like $10 million/year now.
On November 19, 2007, The New York Times reported that Smith had signed a three-year contract giving him between US$7 million and US$8 million per year. This contract placed him in the same pay league as Brian Williams of NBC and Charles Gibson of ABC.
Remember there was a report a few weeks ago about the schism in their newsroom between the actual news people and the Hannity/kool-aid faction.
I’d say the actual news people are losing.

Why keep news people around when your business doesn’t have anything to do with reporting the news?
I was under the impression they have to have at least some real news reporting to call themselves a news network and not end up in legal trouble, although these days the money they have would generally make them immune from consequences anyway. I’m curious if they’ll still keep up the facade by having someone else report actual news (albeit without the jabs at the propaganda arm) or if they’ll just go full propaganda.
NO.
Shep worked at Fox for a long, long time. He deserves no sympathy whatsoever as he tacitly took their ill-gotten money. Unless he actually confesses all the stuff he knew about and never did anything, he is complicit in every single lie they have ever uttered and the damage they have done to our Country and the Hatred they have fostered.
Without Confession, Absolution and Restitution, he should rot in hell.
Absolutely. Collaborators don’t get any sympathy.
Last one out throw the urine balloon at Herr Ingraham.

Yeah, people always think that they’re so awesome that their exit will be followed by a stream of people who leave in protest or on principle. It hardly ever actually happens.
Now if Shep gets a new job and hires them, maybe.

Uh, Shep isn’t the one saying this.
