Remember that lone wolf terrorist attack in San Bernardino CA a few years back?
Take it away, Megan Kelly:
“The neighbors said they saw men going in and out of the garage,” she countered. “They saw packages being delivered. They saw Muslims, and they did not think that was enough to call the cops. Do you?”
Because according to Megan “charismatic” Kelly, being Muslim in American means getting reported for receiving deliveries from Amazon.
Oh and booking Alex Jones for her new show?
Genius.

So what?. She also interviewed Vladimir Putin, and bunch of Trump cronies. Alex Haley interviewed George Rockwell, head of the American Nazi party. Journalist are only suppose interview good people?
They’re supposed to consider whether they’re engaging in useful journalism where there is an actual story to tell or lending their platform to monsters. Interviewing Putin has some arguable journalism value. Interviewing Alex Jones? Not so much.

I watched, or skimmed, a lot of that interview, and she’s kind of the problem - she’s charismatic, she’s well spoken, and she doesn’t particularly care about principles, just ratings. At the end she complains the Democrats are wasting their time because the “jury is rigged” - but not in an angry way, but in a beltway “this is political reality” way, all with a camera winning smile.

Are you able to see the harm caused by Oprah and others giving a platform to Jenny McCarthy and her anti-vax message?
EDIT: Ummm, like usual I’m a little worried about how the “tone” of that in text. Think less confrontational, more just me pinging to see if there’s a common frame of reference to answer your question or not.

Megyn Kelly seems like a pretty terrible person. I find her cold and calculating rather than charismatic. She has some pretty absurd racist ideas that fit in well with her desired audience.

I think i hate Kelly less because the first time I ever heard her actually talk about real stuff, was the Howard Stern show, where she want involved to pander to a crazy Fox audience.
I don’t have any idea what you mean.
She is immoral, and does whatever she must for a paycheck and to keep herself in the news.

Nothing better than making sure you are paid for getting yourself fired. Back during her Blackface isn’t wrong Halloween episode.

As much as I hate Trump the last thing I want is the military removing him from office. Unless it is their votes that do it.

“Useful journalism”? I don’t remember that phrase as being used back when I took journalism classes in college. Useful to who? And who gets to determine what is useful?
The journalist gets to determine that, and the journalist’s audience does, too. Giving fringe lunatics a microphone to extend their reach is something, but it isn’t useful journalism. Of course you’re free to think it is, so go ahead and watch the crazy.

I can’t even watch the CNN’s or MSNBC’s of the world. There is no way I am watching Fox or independents like Kelly.
I think I have become too jaded to watch almost any news source for longer than a few minutes.
I think you could argue that seeing the crazy for yourself should be helpful in avoiding their crazy. But sadly almost every crazy has an audience that agrees with him/her.
True, and if the ‘journalism’ consists of giving them the microphone and letting them get their rant out and treating it like it’s something to consider, that probably doesn’t work as a warning.

The rational person would see the persons rant for what it truly is.
Yes if a reporter lets any person use their platform to spread their views unchallenged that’s an issue. That’s one of my problems with talk show host interviewing anybody but celebrities, most don’t ask tough questions. There is a big difference between 60 Minutes interviewing Bashar Al-Assad and Fox and Friends or Jimmy Kimmel.
But Megyn is a tough interviewer, Alex Jones was so upset by his interview that he released the audio of the interview before her show aired. Megyn paired the Alex Jones interview, with interview with the Sandy Hook parents, Alex didn’t help himself in the exchange.
Of the trillions of debates the Republican held last cycle, the one with Megyn, Chris Wallace, and Brett Bair, was by far the toughest debate on the candidates.
I agree that Megyn doesn’t across principled, she is more concerned with the rating and doing her job. So she is definitely cynical which isn’t necessarily a bad thing for journalist, but I don’t see her knocking herself out to get big story unless there are good ratings involved.
But I didn’t post the interview to debate Megyn Kelly, I posted it because after 5,000 posts speculating about what happens at Fox, it maybe helpful to get the insights of somebody who USED TO work there at a top level and isn’t hyper partisan.

Unfortunately the country is low on rational people. Needle on E running on fumes low.
This has not been my experience of human beings. Not sure I see much evidence of it in history, either, where giving raving right-wing lunatics a platform seems to lead to quite bad results.
And again, if the lunatic is on the fringe with no substantial real base, why bother giving him one?

And there is that racism thing with her… you know, the fact that she is racist. You don’t need to focus on Halloween black face and Christmas is snowflake white claims to see that. She’s got plenty outside of holidays to draw from.
