I had this argument with someone the other day who blamed Democrats for “playing politics” by attacking Trump over the COVID-19 handling.

Here’s the thing. If the Trump administration was making serious efforts and doing its best to get a handle on this issue, I would I agree with them. I also think the Democrats wouldn’t be attacking him for it. The problem lies in the fact that Trump has been downplaying and outright lying about the issue. The Trump administration hasn’t done anything to prepare us in the six weeks of lead time we had. Even when cases were being discovered, he was insisting that they would just go down to zero and it wasn’t an issue, all because he’s worried about what the Dow will be tomorrow and he has the intellect and understanding of a small and not very smart child.

Democrats are attacking the administration because the administration’s efforts (or lack thereof) have been a complete shitshow and it’s going to put the health and well-being of millions of Americans at risk. It’s a looming crisis that Trump has willfully ignored, and that needs to change. It needed to change weeks ago. Pressure needs to be brought on the Trump administration to fix their shit and that’s what they’ve been trying to do. It’s not politics, it’s an attempt at governance.
