BUT only the bit bolded, and presented it as the campaign had rebuffed the gesture outright, which is not what the full quote implies.
yeah, full quote implies conspiracy to collude (even if the meeting didn’t take place). If Don Jr’s meeting with the Russians can be tied to these emails, it’s pretty much game over.
You know, maybe the Russians were baiting Trump into colluding, thinking that would give them leverage over him. The problem is they didn’t know how inept his people were and how it would all blow open and they would lose any leverage they had.
I think they would’ve been over-the-moon happy if they could’ve somehow blackmailed and controlled a President, but I think they’re pretty happy with this outcome anyway. They sowed the seeds of discord quite effectively and undermined the Democratic process. Better yet, it seems there’s nothing we can really do about foreign powers ginning up fake social media articles.
