Freelancer/audio codec problems

For some reason Freelancer was skipping sounds (not a problem I had in the beta), entire music tracks, engine noises, combat noises and voice tracks wouldn’t play, or they’d play erratically.

I followed the instructions on the MS site (namely: delete and reinstall the Fraunhofer codec) … except, after installing it, it didn’t appear like it should.

Anyone have any idea what to do?

The following do not work:

I’ve re-installed my drivers.

I’ve re-installed DirectX.

I’ve tried the procedure many times.

I’ve tried it in safe mode.

Have a look in the readme.txt. It has details on how to solve the problem in there.

I feel so… violated.

Talk about a touchy game. It hated my Ogg Vorbis codec >_<
