Messed around with this- seems like the design of the game has improved, in terms of more to do, which is a good thing for the early game. The genre itself is having a hard time keeping me- feels like I’ve done it all now though.

Galactic Civilizations III v3.7 Anniversary Update Available Today!

For the game’s 4th anniversary, we’ve focused exclusively on a top-to-bottom series of improvements based on fan requests. These improvements are major quality of life changes that improve the overall experience.

  • Ships no longer spontaneously catch fire.

Haha, that’s always a good thing to avoid in space. :) Cheers for still supporting and updating the title.

The v3.8 update is out! This update brings changes to the Ascension UI and adds special notifications whenever someone begins an Ascension.

Just noticed you can play GalCiv III for free this weekend on Steam if you want to try it out. There is also a sale on the game and DLC.

Yep, Steam free weekend for GalCiv III. Great time to have your friends try it out. :)

We announced today that the Villains of Star Control: Origins are invading Galactic Civilizations III on August 27th! The new DLC adds new races to the game, each with their own unique abilities, ship styles, and theme music.

Awesome!

Ooh! This should be nice :)

The Villains of Star Control: Origins has released for Galactic Civilizations III! The DLC adds new races to the game, each with their own unique abilities, ship styles, theme music, and more!

In addition to the new DLC, we’ve released a new v3.9 update for the game that includes massively shorter late game turn times, updated balance based on feedback, AI improvements, new star base modules and lots more.

More info and full v3.9 changelog:

You didn’t have to sacrifice AI competence or strategic decision-making to get the shorter late game turns did you?

v3.96 released for GalCiv 3 last week! Planet visuals, gameplay, and bug fixes are just some of what’s in the update. You can see all the changes here:

So what is the overall impression of this game since all the DLC has released. It’s in the most recent humble bundle and debating whether to get it or not. What about if I have no interest in ship construction?

I think it’s the best 4X on the market if you don’t like tactical combat. Ship construction is a selling point but it’s not necessary.

It’s really the best space 4X released in the last several years.

+1. Best space strategy game. Continues to evolve over time. Good in coop also.
