Hint: My brother’s favorite game.

3 reveals all at once?

Sid Meier’s Pirates!

?

I don’t know what to do with that aspect ratio but I’ll say Redguard just 'cause.

Nerp. Narp.

Skull & Crossbones?

It is not Skull & Crossbones.

Next update will be later tonight.

Some excellent guesses so far. Maybe this will help nudge things even closer to the right direction.

Uncharted waters one or two… I’ll pick two!

Ye-

No…

Just a reminder that @Left_Empty said too many words and managed to talk himself out of a win on a technicality. The victory is up for grabs unless he swoops in to right his wrong. :p

Time for bed.

@Left_Empty came closest and guessed the right franchise so I bestow the crown to him.

Uncharted Waters

Wikipedia describes the game as:

Uncharted Waters is a simulation and role-playing video game series dealing with sailing and trading, themed around the Age of Discovery. In the games, the player takes up the role of a captain (or commodore in some translations) and manages a seagoing fleet to participate in trades, privateering, treasure hunting, exploration, and plain piracy. Even though the series is largely open-ended, there is still a loose plot which requires the player to follow certain paths, and deviating from these paths may stall the progress of the story.

Like I mentioned in the first post for this entry, this is my brother’s all-time favorite game. Apparently he’s had trouble finding any modern game that captures the same magic of this one. Also, apparently there’s a modern mobile game based on the license, but he says it’s not very good.

I never played the game myself–or even heard about it until he told me about a couple months back–but apparently it and its sequel, “New Horizons,” still have some sort of dedicated following to this day.

A couple months back I considered posting pictures of the game in the 2020 Game Frame thread to identify any series fans we might have here–especially those who might even know of modern games for Android or Switch I could suggest to my brother–but every time I looked for a good screenshot they were all pretty tiny for my purposes.

Anyway, here’s a couple examples of how the game looks. By the sound of it, I would have played it had I known about it.

I was figuring SNES by the aspect ratio but know very little of their library. Looks interesting!

those are actually computer games first. They are quite directive compared to Sid Meier’s masterpiece. I didn’t enjoy them as much as the Atlas series either. I think too much graphics and soundtracks hurt my appreciation of games in that genre!

Contra 3: The Alien wars

Yea, they were in several platforms, years early too. I just wanted to use the version my brother says he played.

I did played the 2004 remaster of Sid Meyer’s Pirates!, but it never quite clicked for me. I felt like I maxed out all my upgrades too soon and I didn’t know how to advance (or win) from there. For the last 16 years I’ve been convinced that I played it wrong and that there had to be something huge I missed.

I was replying to Gordon, but discurse knows better than to show it!

the 2004 Pirates is a rhythm game I think, if I trust the opinion of people who managed to enjoy it.

Blood Money

I thought Blood Money had been done already.
