Game Boy emulator... for the PSP

http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=1648

Oboy.

shame hardly anyone can ever use it, its a start I guess. I read that sony japan has mentioned some firmware updates will be required for future games…

so eventually homebrew fans may need 2 PSPs, a japanese 1.0 and their PSP gaming one. Lame. Of course, someone could find a way around whaeterv changed in 1.5, but then you may have the same problems with 1.6 789 whatever, unless they can find some way that cant be locked out through a firmware fix to run unsigned code this lil thing isnt going to be all that snazzy for homebrew unless that is all you want to play.

Wow, no imagescaling? It’s all right for a start I guess, they should be able to emulate GBA on that kind of monster gaming machine though :).

If they can do firmware upgrades then its theoretically possible to do firmware downgrades…

One step closer to PSP MAME.

I’m not going to flash my psp EVERY time I want to play a ps1 game or MAME though. I guess if it was speedy, maybe, but I’d hate to turn it into a brick just to play military madness.

I do think people have figured out the 1.0 downgrade but its risky or something, I dunno. I’ll pay attention in a year or 3 when it’s all easy to do and has tutorials.

For some reason, I thought the DS would be the first of the two to have emulators. PSP wins this race, apparently.

Emulating GBA = Feel Nintendo’s Wrath

They shut down the Zodiac project pretty quickly.

Welcome back.

Please enjoy your visit. Will you be staying long?

I think so.

I thought you were going the Uni Of Heidelburg, or something?

Nah.

What was emulated was the GameBoy, big huge white thing, black & white screen, ate 4 AA’s at a time.

Going to have to stick up for Lizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz here. He was responding to this post:

For Portable MAME I would buy a second PSP and put whatever firmware revision on it necessary, permanently.

Yes, there is, because if you don’t like puzzle, adventure and the occasional TBS, Pocket PCs are piss-poor alternatives to a dedicated portable gaming system (read: anything with a control scheme that even remotely paid attention to ergonomics during the design phase). An iPaq - with it’s narrow screen, big, unresponsive button in the middle and two tiny PIM buttons surrounding it on each side - is the Generals to even a first-gen GBAs Harlem Globetrotters.

Pocket PCs are great at a lot of things. Gaming isn’t one of them.

agreed on that.

Twitch gaming isnt one of them. Though I can play salamander deluxe pack quite nicely, ,shooters are ok.

I know. I was referring to this:

Nintendo DS includes a built-in “GBA emulator.” ;)
