I know plenty of reasonable pro-GG and pro-SJW people. I also know batshit examples of both. It’s the batshit ones that make things difficult to deal with.

I read into it as proof that Dworkin is super fringe and this guy had some pretty serious psychological issues going in, and came dangerously close to a psychotic break. Hard to describe any of that as normal or typical.

And they’re more news-worthy, of course, because people being reasonable is boring and does not sell newspapers.

Unfortunately, too, it only take a few people to SWAT and send death threats and such, and there’s not been the sort of strong “Not in my name” disassociation seen elsewhere, or demanded of…oh…Muslims of Islamists. (I use that purely as an example)

I don’t find in this page anything I strongly disagree. At this pace this site will turn in a hugbox.

Yes and it’s important when dealing with toxic misogyny that we make everything very easy to deal with. After all, it’s not like any of US are women, right?

What do these imaginary “reasonable pro-GG” people you know want, Alstein? Get them to concisely list their concerns out.

It’s very important for some people to pretend that everyone actually agrees with each other(and, interestingly, that hidden consensus tends to be what they personally believe, go figure).

#GamerGate’s traction with the MRA and white supremacist crowd, well, that’s just two more groups of people that we all agree with! We just don’t know it yet!

Virgil is a hoot.

Serious question for the quisling “Can’t we all just get along?” types, I can see imagining yourself brokering a great truce between SJWs and GG. What exactly, though, would the terms of that look like?

SJWS: Sexism is real and should be discussed. Racism is real and should be discussed. Social context is a legitimate part of media criticism.

GGers(and their self-denying allies): None of those things should be mentioned, ever, even if they were real, which they are not. Even the discussion of the concept of privilege makes me uncomfortable and should be stopped.

And it kinda seems like where Alstein and ShivaX and the like are going for is that there’s a consensus to be built around “Sexism is real and bad, but must never be mentioned, and we’ll just hope things get better on their own”? That’s just my guess, maybe I’m off, but Brad literally thinks misogyny is a myth. Either that or he thinks gnomes are very common. What 90% common ground do you think Wu has with that?

We see this a lot. Black people complaining about Brown and Garner and Rice, well, sure, racism is bad in theory, but on the other hand Al Sharpton should shut up about it in practice.

It’s amazingly easy for people who benefit from the status quo to use their STEM-degree honed logic skills and decide that nobody should rock the boat.

I certainly hope nobody used nepotism Alinsky tactics in their American Sniper reviews to mention that the movie whitewashed the Iraq War and downplayed the fact that Kyle was a sociopathic racist fabulist in real life. That would be inappropriate politicization of a review. It would be divisive, and manufacture controversy, professional victimhood, Streisand effect, unethical.

Because we all know media does not reflect nor does it influence society, and anyway, Islamophobia is a myth.

claws furiously at face

Virgil, you forgot your meds this morning.

As if to prove my point.

Just when you think the flames are simmering down ITT. A moment at Virgil’s house:

“Were there any heroes in the Iraq War, Uncle Virgil?”

“Only those who refuse to go kill our brown brothers in the name of racist capitalist imperialism.”

“Oh. What are we having for lunch, Uncle Virgil?”

“Go smash the cis patriarchy now, you little shit.”

How dare you not be impressed with regurgitation of simplistic perspectives read on the internet! I was told those views were the correct ones, and that repeating them would earn me praise!

Folks, I have Virgil on ignore, so I have no idea what he said. However, I prefer to think that Virgil’s latest series of screeds came in response to Teiman’s latest quote:

Virgil simply couldn’t stand for that to happen.

So I take it none of you disagree with anything I wrote?

Guys, I’m Virgil Hilts. Sorry :(

Nope, you’re on fire bro.

One comment I saw from a friend who was at PAX South: (her account may not be 100% unbiased)- are now looking to interact with customers directly through Twitch to get around the gaming media.

What is she trying to achieve or avoid by doing that? I am just curious to her the POV for that move.
