Did I really need to clarify “relevant claims”?
Their sex life is completely irrelevant to GamerGate’s claims of that relationship influencing coverage. Again:
GamerGate’s original claims are that Zoe Quinn slept around for coverage favors. This was debunked literally months ago. And yet it persists.
[ul][li]Kotaku shows that Nathan never wrote the articles he was accused of writing
On March 31, Nathan published the only Kotaku article he’s written involving Zoe Quinn. It was about Game Jam, a failed reality show that Zoe and other developers were upset about being on. At the time, Nathan and Zoe were professional acquaintances. He quoted blog posts written by Zoe and others involved in the show. Shortly after that, in early April, Nathan and Zoe began a romantic relationship. He has not written about her since. Nathan never reviewed Zoe Quinn’s game Depression Quest, let alone gave it a favorable review.[/li]
[li]Rock Paper Shotgun: This is the only article Nathan ever wrote on Rock Paper Shotgun that mentioned Depression quest.[/ul][/li]
If you want to support irrelevant character assassination of a game developer in support of a fight for “ethics in games journalism”, GamerGate is for you I guess.

What if I just want to support irrelevant character assassination?

That’s great, you’ll fit right in with any GamerGate thread :-P

I should have clarified. I am a PC gamer, not a console gamer. I don’t see either of those stores, ever.

I’ll have to assume it’s a generational thing then. Native Twitch streaming was added to those consoles because it was so huge on PC already.
The majority of Twitch’s approximately 60-million-viewer (per month) audience is on PC. Console support came later.

Okay. I don’t doubt the numbers, I just don’t know anyone who actually uses it. And my point was more along the lines of the people who don’t follow gaming news… seem just as likely not to watch Twitch. The gamers on message boards, following gaming news at all I thought were the minority. Granted if it’s on the consoles, eve the COD and Madden only crowd might run into it there.
The top games streamed by Twitch in 2014 were League of Legends, Dota 2, Hearthstone, CS:GO, WoW and Minecraft. These games drove 61% of all traffic on Twitch.
None of which are Starcraft and therefore don’t count…

Okay so it’s the heavy competitive games that are on there. That would explain it. I am not sure why seeing Magic on there makes me smile. I play it on occasion, or at least one version of it.
Well, those are more the games people /keep/ playing, Nesrie.
Other games come and go.
Yea, it’s kind of like watching sports but for the next gen. Heck, my 8 year old daughter loves watching that stuff.
Anita Sarkeesian posts one week of tweets.
Ever since I began my Tropes vs Women in Video Games project, two and a half years ago, I’ve been harassed on a daily basis by irate gamers angry at my critiques of sexism in video games. It can sometimes be difficult to effectively communicate just how bad this sustained intimidation campaign really is. So I’ve taken the liberty of collecting a week’s worth of hateful messages sent to me on Twitter. The following tweets were directed at my @femfreq account between 1/20/15 and 1/26/15.
Some of them are really bad. NSFW and all that.
Only 2 or 3 were racist though. Progress!

Most of those threats seem to be more of a commentary on the ridiculousness and idiocy of the people making them, than actually threatening statements.
Maybe it’s just me being jaded by years of playing on XBox Live, but when someone says something like “im gonna quickscope you irl”, it’s laughable, not threatening.
Most of the foul-mouthed illiterate tweets are more dumb than threatening, but far be it for me to dismiss them. I can’t imagine getting that volume of stupidity thrown my way in just one week.

I think that our perception is colored by our experiences though. For someone who doesn’t participate in the gaming community much, they may not be as numbed to that kind of thing.
Which is, itself, something of a condemnation of the gaming community.
Your point being what, though?

Mainly that they seem more idiotic than threatening.
