The fighting game community was controversial for the defense of sexual harassment ‘shit talk’ on the pro level. The whole “sexual harassment is part of a culture, and if you remove that from the fighting game community, it’s not the fighting game community–it’s StarCraft” thing. Which is kind of bizarre because it’s not like Starcraft is totally chill, it’s just that on the pro level they expect players to act professionally.

The vids were from KIT, which is pretty grassroots still. EVO is a bigger organisation and more professional these days, mainly due to what you mention.
We’re really digging in the depths of gamergate history here but XOXO Fest is an indie developer conference popular with the West Coast indie/SJW set that has generated a number of “lol the SJWs are all white males” memes back in the autumn.

Same thing that’s happening on the internet at large. Something about this dispute, as stupid and petty as it is, seems to strike a chord with people frustrated by or fascinated by the SJWs/Manbabies so people can’t let it die.

I know some details about that event due to knowing one of the TOs. Lets just say no one was an angel in that, and the Arcsys games community is the most problematic. (That means games like Blazblue and Guilty Gear)
Also, some of the issues with FG’s aren’t an issue in Europe- the French FGC is very inclusive all around, though I think Kayane being as good as she is and the popularity of Soul Calibur in France (it’s one of their top games) has something to do with it. If the US had a Kayane of Street Fighter that would help. The American, Japanese, and European FGC’s are all somewhat different due to cultural norms.
One thing with the FGC that can lead to (or solve problems) is the Authority equals Asskicking trope really plays hard.
That claim was by one person, who opinions are pretty split on (Aris). He represents an oldschool mentality that is a lot less influential than it used to be. The money that’s coming into events is helping- it’s forcing professionalism.
