Now, as SVU(et al.) show us, the actual mainstream is not treating #GG with any sort of respect. I don’t know how you square that circle, this deep seated certainty that your cause is true and just, that your anger is based on self-evident outrages. If you can’t even use your words to explain why you’re angry, it doesn’t take a conspiracy by r/SRS and George Soros to explain why the outside world isn’t angry along with you.

I still think a lot of GG supporters just label anyone who says or has said anything remotely close to something they don’t like as a SJW not worth noting and of course liars if they suggest harassment of women in gaming is a bit too wide spread to ignore.

Something I really don’t think GG gets: Sarkeesian’s videos were improving the image of the industry, because self-critique makes us look better. Articles wondering if the industry is sexist or excessively violent improve the image of the industry in the mainstream. All they do is bring us into parity with other media, whch write hand-wringing articles ALL THE TIME.

And yeah, developers don’t like it when they get slammed.
But having the conversation means we are mature enough to handle it. This stuff existing at all is a sign of mainstream culture actually taking us seriously. This is what mainstream acceptance looks like.
In the midst of the worst of this mess, a few months ago, I opened Entertainment Weekly and found a full page article about portrayal of women in various TV shows. And I couldn’t help but think of the irony. There it was, the exact thing you are saying is insulting. It didn’t even generate a letter to the editor.
Mainstream is not only commerce. Mainstream is also just being in the conversation. The fact that there’s a huge backlash against some frickin’ opinions you happen to disagree with is in fact the problem.
Unfortunately, you still see he posted and it can be tempting to see what train wreck he’s spewed out. I wish ignore just hid the fact he posted entirely.

The problem is someone will reply to the troll, so you never get away from it. Also this forum gives most folks a ton of rope before they hang themselves, and Tom’s medical issues might make him not want to get involved in this dreck.
I’ve seen this behavior from both sides and in many other arguments besides this.
Tom’s quest to maintain his sanity may even override that ;)

So you’re saying the GG crowd has been sexually harassed for the last few decades, actually excluded from tournaments, and haven’t seen and are often ridiculed for even asking about characters that represent their sex? I mean i understand the GG has this beef with the gaming journalism by redefining what they think journalism should be, but I don’t see much proof that people they’ve labeled as SJW (keeping in mind this isn’t actually a unified group) has been doing this for years.
