True. The difference here is that they seem to be going out of their way to pander to what they believe are feminists. Meanwhile, most feminists I know are smart enough to know when Bette being patronized.
When I first saw mrs. Thor’s boob armor I was reminded of the Simpsons episode where Homer eats a donut with a knife and fork in an attempt to appear professional.
Are comics with anti-drug messages pandering to DEA agents?

Go check out the excerpt from the Thor comic someone posted in the thread about it, soapy. It’s kind of ham fisted in its attempt to be pro women.
Yes, it’s poorly written, but my god some of the posters here are blowing it all out of proportion.
Yeah… by and large I’m on the pro- side of this issue, but that excerpt was… wretched.

Yeah, i think it got picked up by someone in the right wing media, and turned into something bigger than it is, like the war against Christmas or something.
Ultimately, not many folks really give a crap about the thor comic. Prior to the movie recently, basically no one cared.
Some folks are pissed that the comics are just recycling some existing character, and doing an obvious publicity stunt (which really, no one who read the press release released by marvel would mistake for anything other than a stunt), but those complaints have been made for years now.
I gotta figure that there are some number of women who would find the Thor comic kind of offensive in its ridiculousness, if they read comics to begin with.
Then again, comics are basically for kids, so maybe some little kid doesn’t think about it that much.

Don’t you understand? They made Thor female. And Spiderman black. What’s next, a black Captain America? If this isn’t a grave offense that makes you burn with the outrage of a thousand suns, what is? This is why we fight!

I think they made green lantern black in some iteration a long time ago, didn’t they?
Edit…
Yeah, the second green lantern, way back in 1971
I find it hard to believe anyone could find that excerpt offensive. I don’t even think anyone in this thread is actually offended (or if they are it would be weird… Are they identifying with the misogynistic criminal?)
The issue at stake is that the comic might be “ruined” by the inclusion of a socially conscious message. I don’t think being socially concious causes one to be a bad writer, I think the question of whether the writing is good or not is separate from the particular issue being raised.

As a total outsider from comics, I find it very bizarre how they can treat a character as if it was an office, to be passed along through its insignia. “The second Thor” makes as much sense to me as “the fourth Abraham Lincoln”. But if gamers now have to justify their quirks to the mainstream, why not comicers as well.
Thor’s already crossed species (beta ray bill) so crossing genders isn’t thar much of a deal, although beta ray bill kicked ass just like a superhero should. Not quite convinced on the “defeat thy enemies with the power of gender studies debate” thing though, or that dumb wonder woman strip that’s doing the rounds.
Didn’t we have the ‘Thor as women’ talk somewhere else? Anyway to say it again these might be spin off stories based on the actual Saga’s in particular the one where Thor had to pretend to be a women and dresses up as a bride with a veil to marry a rime giant (frost giant etc) as a disguise to get close to be able to kill him. The original Saga’s had a number of humorous stories like this, either because the Norse were a tough irreverent mead swilling lot, or because the later Christians they became added these flourishes to demean the Old Religion. We are not sure, but i prefer the first explanation. I’d like to think even a converted Norse like Snorri would still want to preserve their historic culture as close to the truth as possible.

Don’t forget Ms.Marvel. Then again I think how they’ve handled that is up there with Jamie Reyes for portrayal of a teenaged minority superhero.
Also, I’ll make a webcomic recommendation along those lines:

This is a very good superhero webcomic.

Oh, i don’t find it offensive at all, beyond how hacky it is. I was just thinking that a woman might find it so, given the ham fisted way it attempts to portray feminism. The use of silly terms like girl power seems kind of cheesy.

For some characters, like the green lantern, it makes sense, since he actually does kind of hold office. He’s a member of the lantern corps. For Thor, not so much. Thor is the Norse god.

I’m not in the least bit surprised to find out that the people who continually harp on about gamersgate (both for and against it) on QT3 are also deeply into comic books and argue about those as well.

I hate comic books in general, but like graphics novels.
I think the whole GG, anti-GG and SJW is a bit ridiculous. Maybe the SJW are evil, because they did this global internet censorship thing, where any thread about the topic got banned on many websites ( 4chan, reddit, rps, …). I have no horse in this race, except defend freedom of expression (that is a conditioned issue in a internet forum, because is not a automatic right, it depends on the given rights by the owner of the forum).
Are you being sarcastic or do you really believe in this conspiracy horseshit?

So have they reverted Nick Fury? Or have they kept him as black? He’s probably the main example I can think of, of a long term change that’s stuck around. (Though I think they technically did some switcheroo shenanigans to get a black Nick Fury in charge of the main universe, and it’s like actually Nick Fury, Jr. or something)
Oh, it’s clobberin’ time!
Right? What a bunch of nerds.
