Congratulations on your new job in games journalism.

stuff…

I have deleted this post because is probably too soon to talk about this.

A long, rambling, fairly nutty post about what happens when Virgil and all his mates are made mods.

The guy who wrote that is now shadowbanned, so something hit a nerve.

Reddit is strange and confusing to my unfrozen cave-man brain.

Ironically, the person who wrote that post seems like they belong to a cult. Holy cow. There are literally people who see themselves in a life or death war against feminists. Apparently the feminists already destroyed Digg AND 4chan! It is increasingly depressing how hard GamerGate is working to make gaming culture look like nothing but outrage and conspiracy.

You probably think Piquard is a better captain than Kirk!

Why does it require a conspiracy?

First off, that guy writes like a child. By that I mean his paragraph structure shows that he really put work into organizing his thoughts, it doesn’t flow.

Secondly, and this is important:

The worst thing about Shitredditsays, however, isn’t that they have their own shitty subreddit that makes zero sense to the outside world and to those who are sane and don’t believe in the views of social justice warriors and radical feminists. The worst thing about SRS is that they and their friends from other like-minded subreddits on reddit - with the cooperation and unspoken support of a few reddit administrators - have managed to turn reddit into Digg 2.0 where a clique of users who are chummy and friendly with each other have managed to take over a very large portion of this website.

How does he maintain, within the space of a single sentence, the idea that everyone “sane” is a piece of shit just like the author but also that there’s a vast conspiracy of SRS and their clique of friends? Why don’t all the racists and sexists control reddit, if everyone “sane” agrees with them? How did a tiny handful of demented losers overcome everyone in the entire world?

Listen, I get that maybe you don’t get an introduction to Critical Race Theory in the orientation video for being the assistant manager at Gamestop, but when apparently the ENTIRE WORLD is embarked in a gaslighting campaign to make you seem sexist just because you don’t like it when a woman shares her opinion about video games… Consider, if only for a moment, whether you may have done or said some offensive shit?

But finally, most important, and this for you, pwk:

We know! We read the shit you read seriously for fun, and then we share it amongst ourselves to mock you!

The guy who posted an insane wall of text detailing a wildly implausible conspiracy theory managed to get himself shadowbanned? I am SHOCKED! I am sure there is nothing else in his posting history that might have contributed to that.

You’re the one who hasn’t a clue if you think that’s the point. It’s the politicized crap in the dialog, not the desire to have more diverse heroes. Imagine if she was slugging some dude for being pro-abortion, or was reciting Tea Party lines about criminals, or if the criminal gave up and allowed herself to be physically beaten (!!), as in this comic, because she thought the hero was a worthy environmental crusader. It’s just wretched.

Not my takeaway:

Will Wonder Woman turn out to be a tranny? Is the Incredible Hulk only incredible because he endured cruel fat-shaming as a teen but didn’t let his size define him? And shouldn’t Spider-Man be a gay latino? That last one’s not a joke, by the way: in 2011, Marvel unveiled a Spider-Man that was half-black and half-latino, called Miles Morales, to the consternation and confusion of ordinary comic book fans, as part of its Ultimate series of character reboots.

Captain America, too, is changing: he’s becoming black. Changes like this are designed to provoke readers, and they do–not because readers are racist or sexist, but because they understand that certain characteristics are intrinsic to certain characters. James Bond and Captain America are obviously white. It is a part of their personalities. Thor is obviously a man; to suggest otherwise is daft.

Men don’t seem to care about gender-swapping great female characters, which rather gives away the game about the sort of agenda driving these awful decisions. Why is there a demand for female versions of male superheroes, but no demand the other way? I mean, have you ever heard of calls for a male Lara Croft? It makes very little sense, until you learn that comic books, fantasy and sci-fi were taken over years ago by ultra-progressive misandrists who basically hate their own core audiences.

His objection to Miles Morales doesn’t seem to be based on the bad dialog, there’s no comment about that at all. That’s one that I’ve read and I thought it was above average for Spiderman. (Never read Thor or Captain America myself.)

I missed that post. I don’t deny some people just hate change of any sort, and comic fans are notorious for that, campaigning for years to get Barry Allen changed back into the Flash, or Hal Jordan into Green Lantern, or to have Spider-man remarried/single, etc., but that’s not why I started this discussion in this thread.

And arguing that characters should never be mixed up to provide a more diverse range of characters is not something I agree with - often the writers are ill-equipped to write minority characters well, however, and I think Marvel has done a poor job of humanizing those characters by making them nuanced, sometimes flawed, non-cardboard characters. It’s hard to write from a different perspective though.

I thought we were specifically discussing the Breitbart article? That’s what I was quoting, not a user post, but the article that started this discussion?

That’s not a post, that’s from the Breitbart article that was the basis for this whole discussion?

I think some folks are talking about the Thor thing without reading that article. It was discussed in the other sub forum on its own.

He was shadowbanned for creating a metareddit to watch the SRS communities, themselves metareddits created to act as social justice police against other subreddits. The SRS communities consist of hundreds of Virgils.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

As a teen I preferred the then new and freshly shaven-headed Sisko, and all the whizz-bang action that went with him. Being nearly 30 I’ve found Picard has really grown on me.

Good to see that #GG has devolved from needing children’s fables explained to them to needing Breitbart articles that they personally posted explained to them. Definitely a consumer revolt with momentum, guys. Just need pwk to stay on the Conde Nast/Jews/SRS connection, so close to breaking this wide open and then everyone being forced to agree that…

OK we still never got that, right? What exactly you lot are so furious about?

Well, whatever it is, with the caliber of person involved in #GG, victory is inevitable.

You didn’t understand the post that started this discussion or are being deliberately obtuse. The only thing that started this discussion was that wretched comic excerpt. The Milo excerpt was just highlighting its relevance to the GG crew to tie it into the larger discussion in this thread.

Again, this is an excerpt in which the writer chose to have a woman allow herself to be physically beaten into unconsciousness because she lauds the political messaging of her opponent, and you think that’s great and normal, just like all comics do. Uh, no. It’s this kind of politicized crap that’s not entertaining, nonsensical, and it diminishes the character into just serving a SJW polemic. As the Breitbart excerpt you misunderstood indicated, if there’s anything positive to come out of GG, it’s a public rejection of the increased politicization of the gaming industry and media.

But what is your thesis here? That absent a “SJW agenda”, the author’s writing would have been better? Or is it that this writer was hired specifically due to a SJW penchant and that a more talented writer was thus shut out?
