Latest GamerGate stuff ties everything into The Common Core and Bill Gates: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x7G-J8lwmA&list=PLAoTAqLs8M-0cWUnjaZUUX9tS5OTVUoUX&index=6

God I love conspiracy theories, especially when they could as easily be parodies as in earnest.

You mean the issue of gender equality in the videogame industry, which is equally as old? Because, jeez why go back to THAT old horse? Why not just let it go and be done with it rly. I’m SOOOOOO SUUUUUURE you’re going to add more to an issue that really started before you were even born. So PFFFFFF.

Oh right, issues don’t progress unless people actually talk about them in a non-polarized way. Nothing has changed in the issue because, surprise, people keep wanting to polarize everyone’s position into black-and-white until it becomes so retarded that even wanting to remain unpolarized is, itself, grounds for polarization.

I put it to people getting bitchy right now: do you want to be understood, or do you simply want to win the internets?

Thank you for your concern.

Pro-tip: The best way to stay unpolarized is to avert your gaze from the flames.

Is this supposed to be a joke?

Pembroke is probably a SJW pretending to be GG by demonstrating that its all about Quinn.

GamergateHQ, Kotakuinaction and the #gamergate hashtag dont seem to share the same obsession. You certainly still see Sarkeesian related content, but posts on Arthur Chu probably outnumber Quinn 20 to 1, if not more.

Edit: More on bomb threats by Cathy Young.

So again, with the goal of winning the internets and displaying absolutely zero interest in talking in any terms other than hashtag partisanship, why are you still here?

Why not?

I am unsure what you have contributed to this discussion except to rehash what has already been talked about ad nauseum. I think you should tell us more about how the games industry has degenerated; maybe if you can weigh in on the connection to the common core curriculum and Bill Gates’ secret agenda to brainwash the US population (by throwing a cool FIVE MILLION DOLLARS at some US govt. consultants).

THAT is the kind of stuff I want to talk about!!!

I like how the Gamergoats had an in-person meetup. I can imagine many of them writing “Ethics in Games Journalism” on their hands as a conversation reminder and then panicking when their sweat started smearing the reminder.

Two wrongs don’t make a right, etc etc. Judges unfortunately get to see lots of people every day who felt that the pain and emotional devastation of infidelity/an ugly breakup/divorce/ somehow justified lashing out in illegal ways. This is just another one of those stupid and sad tales. A public name and shame coupled with a call for mob harassment isn’t quite on the illegal side of the line for bad-post-breakup-behavior but it probably ought to be.

This is really just the flipside to “what are you so angry about?”

It’s Virgil’s dark half, gang.

Maybe the GGers initiated the bomb threat against themselves to artificially shift blame?

Isn’t that how the argument goes?

It’s poor behavior for any circumstance, but even still there’s the question of who’s really siccing any mobs on anyone. Because there are enough egos on boths sides that have attempted to, and would like to believe they have the capability to do so because crazy. One of the basic things that brings the whole hashtag nonsense into question is that it makes it really, really convenient to attribute amorphous mob actions to amorphous mob titles. If you create a tag that literally anyone can be attributed to (and gee, no one’s chomping at the bit to attribute labels in a dialogue right? We’re all adults here, right?), then that makes it disturbingly easy to attribute actions of individuals to whatever it seems the most convenient to attribute it to at the time.

Since camps are so concrete, does the one camp want to take responsibility for the same mob harassment that happened to Wardell? Anyone in whatever the hell camp that apparently matters, since it’s impossible to not be part of one hashtag or another? Because the rub is that it’s happened on both sides.

Funny thing is, it kinda lends credence to the notion any established pole in this shindig is fucking crazy and suffers from such social retardation that the very vicious behavior they complain about is the only one they seem interested in.

But hey, this is nothing new, so I’m sure you geniuses have come with a supremely civilized way of dealing with this that doesn’t involve agreeing or ignoring with no real inbetween.

I gotta say, I really appreciate you visiting us from whatever planet you’re from. Since your species has clearly evolved to a higher plane of discourse, it must be tough conversing with mere mortal humans. Have you come to teach us your superior ways? We have so much to learn, but you’ll find that we’re willing students!

wow way to victim blame, I’m fractally triggered, it’s just an unending wave of angst and insinuations of self-harm that will tragically go unfulfilled

Heh. I see what you did there. Instead of Gate you said Goat. I must speak with your writing staff. I must have them.

PM me if you would like my talents at Stardock. I can intern under Adam’s supervision. ;-)

Do you not realizing where that comes from? It was impossible to talk about GamerGate on Twitter by invoking the actual term without being inundated by dozens of Gaters constantly searching for individuals to argue with and/or harass. Rather than subjecting yourself to that level of attention or abuse it became simpler to slightly modify the term.
