Such fantastic Schadenfreude that Joss Whedon jumped in against gamergate and his buddy Adam Baldwin without understanding the situation at all, but naturally being against the people he was told were misogynist (who isn’t?), only to now be faced with the realization of just how utterly crazy the SJWs he sided with are, as they’ve turned on him and driven him off twitter for the “misogynist” Avengers 2.

Is there any popular culture creator who has done more to promote strong female roles in his stories than Joss Whedon? Maybe Chris Claremont. So insane.

If by “my species” you mean grown adults, and if by “mortal humans” you mean people who have worked in PR for 20 years and still can’t communicate on nuanced issues without shitposting, then yeah it can be a little rocky sometimes. All it has is some tweets critical of gators by Whedon, and then some other tweets critical of Age of Ultron. I’m not seeing anything about anyone driven off anything.

Whedon hasn’t explained why he left. And it’s not even the first time: he quit Twitter right after releasing Much Ado About Nothing. I suspect he may have left this time for the same reason, which may be familiar to a lot of us:

The criticism is that Black Widow’s story arc in Age of Ultron reduces her to a female cliché of the damsel in distress. She spends most of the movie either mooning over Banner or lamenting the fact that she can’t procreate. When the big battle happens, she gets kidnapped by Ultron and has to be rescued by Banner. She also has one conversation with another woman that involves babies.

Personally, I did find Black Widow’s part disappointing, but I’m not going to harangue anybody on Twitter over it.

I take zero pleasure in the fact that he has to deal with harassing, belligerent nutcases – but the fact that he jumped into the gamergate discussion in a kneejerk fashion and accepted what unhinged lunatics like Jonathan McIntosh and Ben Kuchera/Virgil Hilts were saying at face value, only for them to turn their deranged attacks against him is hopefully giving him a welcome dose of lucidity now. These are not reasonable people interested in equality who are being “attacked” - rather, it’s a cesspool of unpleasant lowlifes who will never be satisfied unless they’re garnering attention for themselves, attacking each other and anyone else for whatever reason they can manufacture.
