Eh, everyone will have read the books by the time season 2 starts and the other thread will die off.

Goodness, I hope not. I want to see people’s reaction to the Red Wedding in Real Time, but that’s going to take 3 years, so realistically, yeah, that isn’t going to happen.

Wow, I wondered how they were going to pull that off, but, wow.

That was fantastic. The only thing i hqve some nerd rage about is mixing up the order, but i know they wanted to end with the beheading, so i guess i’ll deal.

I’m not sure about letting Ned see Arya and tip off Yoren. It feels like the writers wanted some small saving grace for Ned at the end, and it actually softens the whole scene. It’s far more brutal in the books (not the least because Yoren is a bastard there as well).

I really liked the anti-details of Shae’s past.

I love the change!

In before the battle nerds complain about no battles! Who cares? Nothing of importance was lost(okay Grey Wind slaughtering dudes would be cool). But other than that, those battles would be a waste of time.

Though I think whoever made the decision to have zero scenes taking place at night should be flogged mightily. Jaime vs Ned, Arya’s escape, and now Drogo’s tent scene have all suffered(slightly) for their daytime filming. At least the end of next weeks looks to be at night.

Was it just me or were they implying that Shae was a Red Priestess?

It is a little bit of a bummer to gloss over the battles, but they did the same thing in Rome.

Whispering Wood is glossed over in the books, too, so that didn’t bother me too much.

So my wife is pissed off at me for getting her hooked on the show now. She literally threw things at the TV at the end of the episode :)

Mine too. She looked at me and said, “Really? They just killed the main reason I watched the show!”
I told her, " Find another reason to watch, just don’t get too attached…"

I’ll gladly give up every battle in the books (except perhaps the Blackwater) if it allows the budget to stay sane enough to convince HBO to sign on for more seasons beyond the first two.

“Well, that kid Robb seems alright. At least he’ll avenge Ned’s death.”

EDIT: via Winteriscomingbitches:

That one will involve Tyrion waking up on shore with wet hair. Totally different.

My wife was traumatized too… Reaction was “But he is the main star, did he really just die???”

I don’t have the heart to tell her what is coming. I am rereading and into Storm of Swords and I had forgotten just how grim it gets.

Best speculation by a non-book reader on tumbler: And how about Daenerys, is her husband, Conan the Barbarian, going to turn into a centaur or what? Was the “blood magic” they were talking about referring to the removal of that horses head and replacing it with his? If so, this is the greatest show of all time, and all other shows should just get canceled.

That is too awesome, I’m betting that’s going to be alot of peoples reactions.

Dam, Larry’s breakin shit

Awesome, I wonder how hard he must have to work to avoid spoilers.

I’ve been watching with a couple of non-readers, and they were absolutely speechless tonight.

One of them was still shell-shocked an hour later, and left the house sputtering, “It’s like killing Aragorn at the end of Fellowship. It is Just. Not. Done.”

You want to know what shock and awe looks like?

It looks like this. Larry Williams’ of Otaku Assemble and his enthusiastic non-reader reviews of Game of Thrones. Most are 30-40 mins in review and are great. Larry was NOT a happy camper this evening, however.
