Joffrey calls for the executioner to bring him Ned’s head - the guy walks over and he puts his hood on which seems a bit silly. Everyone knows you’re the King’s executioner, and dude, he just called you by name it’s not like people don’t know who you are.
Brienne could be Obelix: European, very strong, right size, stubborn, lacking in guile, honest.

Yeah. Uh. I can’t even think of anything funny enough, or rather funnier to add except, maybe, this:
Yeah! The books after Game of Thrones totally bombed because Ned Stark and Khal Drogo bought it in that one. No one bothered to read any of the later novels and Martin had to threaten his publisher at gunpoint to get his latest volume even printed. Too bad.

Yeah, I am pretty happy with all the casting, except for Sansa, I still don’t really like who they picked for her.
And I am still rather annoyed that they didn’t bother to do something as simple as using makeup and/or bleaching on Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke’s eyebrows. It makes it so obvious that they’re wearing wigs, and it’s a bit immersion breaking for me every time.
And this is one area where The Borgias really excels at – getting a proper look. Hollliday Grainger is naturally dark haired like Lena and Emilia Clarke, but she looks way more believable as a blonde Lucretia Borgia because they did her eyebrows right:

Those are my own personal nitpicks though.
I also don’t understand the people who feel Drogo is a main character. That pissed off episode review dude in the youtube video made a point of saying “Not Drogo too! You can’t take him too!”
My wife is a non-reader and her reaction to Ned dying was “But he’s like the main guy!!” She was definitely shocked. But she doesn’t usually think too far ahead when watching a show, she likes to stay in the moment and take the surprises as they come.
Her concern for Drogo is 100% limited to the fact that, once he dies, Dany’s future as a leader of the Dothraki is thrown into jeopardy. Dany is probably her favourite character. So I think the dragon scene will be a great moment for her.
If, for the dragon birth scene, they can pull off something as awesome as the beheading, I will be happy.
I agree with this. On Dany in particular the wig is very obvious. I wish they had gone with dye instead. Or something.

Well the “two main guys” doesn’t necessarily refer to Drogo & Ned, Mouzone perhaps referred to the King and his Hand, who at the time were the two main guys ruling the kingdom and with their passing it dissolves into chaos?

… and chaos is not as interesting?

Well, I was just commenting on the issue of Drogo being a main character might not be what Mouzone had intended to imply. However he might have a point regarding the fantasy turning off some viewers. Zombies are one thing, but dragons are such a huge fantasy cliche that it might indeed turn off some viewers that are not into that much. Especially since their expectations of where the show was going was scuttled with Ned being killed off.
However I certainly enjoyed the books and the setting and I suspect most viewers are not going to be too upset by this turn of events.
I just hope the fx for the dragons isn’t terrible. Would really, really suck to end the season that way if it is.
They certainly aren’t spending the FX budget on big crowds, nice battles, or even, y’know, night time, so here’s hoping.
Well, I guess HBO will have an opportunity to correct that choice in a DRAMATIC fashion after Episode 10 should they wish to. I hope they don’t.
You do recall that all of Dany’s clothes AND all of her hair are supposed to burn off in the funeral pyre?
We are supposed to be left with a Persis Khambatta look, ca. 1979 to Daenerys at the end of Season 1.
My bet: Not a frikkin’ CHANCE do they do that. In a book, it’s easy to suggest a comely woman is effectively shorn in her entirety. But in a visual medium like TV? Nope. No way would Emilia Clark agree – and I don’t blame her, either.

Or the direwolves, that are non-existent.
I don’t think it will be SyFy Saturday night movie terrible, but I am not holding out hope for WETA Workshop quality either. I predict it will be a nice effects shot of Dany walking through the fire unscathed (will they make all her hair burn away or will they stop short on that detail from the books?). Then we’ll see a close in shot of the three eggs, there will be swelling music, a sudden burst of flame/heat, and then cracks appear in the eggs. Just as a claw begins to emerge from one we fade to black on Season One of Game of Thrones.
Shit I hope not. The real clincher in that scene is that she comes out feeding the dragons Grapes of Wrath style. I can’t imagine HBO missing the opportunity, esp. since they already went off script to work in some disturbing breastfeeding.
That would look so incredibly stupid that I hope Slainte is right. It looked incredibly stupid in my imagination while reading that scene, so I can’t imagine how bad it would be in CGI form. I’m thinking if the dragons are shown coming out they’ll wrap themselves around Dany and that’ll be that.
I thought the former disturbing breastfeeding was on script, but I haven’t read the books in so long maybe I’m misremembering.

I believe there’s been interviews with FX guys saying that they did a LOT of work on the dragons, so I bet we see a whole lot more than just cracking eggs and claws.
I hope they get rid of the breastfeeding dragons but include the bit where she names all of her loyal Dothraki as her bloodriders and each of them says “I am honored, but you are a woman and I cannot be your bloodrider.” and then she hatches the dragons and everyone’s like !!! and then one by one the three present themselves to her and are all “blood of my blood.”
END SEASON
It’s hard to tell given how much people dye their hair now, but don’t “mismatched” eyebrows occasionally occur naturally? Not that it’s necessarily a good choice for making an actress blonde for a role obviously; I noticed Headey’s but assumed it was just an unusual aesthetic choice. The general otherworldliness Dany/Viserys’ hair entirely distracted me from eyebrow color.

Like I said, it’s my own personal nitpick. But generally speaking, people’s eyebrow color is a shade or two darker than their hair color. in the case of GOT, to me, it looks really off.
Which is why I posted the pic of Holly Grainger - she’s naturally a very dark brunette, and had to have her hair and brows tinted weekly for The Borgias, as well as hair extensions. She ends up looking a lot better by comparison.
They just need to steal some of the set and costume designers from the Tudors/Borgias, is all. :)
Honestly, past the first time I saw Cersei and thought: hmm, brown eyebrows, I never gave a thought to either, nor to the dye vs. wig issue - if anything, I may have thought in my naivity, “pretty good hair dyes.”
What gets me (and simultaneously makes me feel like an ass) is all the leather/faux leather in the armour. In a lot of places it’s totally appropriate, but on the occasions where I’d really expect plate or mail everywhere and there’s big amounts of leather some little light flashes in my nerd lizard brain. I’m sure they went the practical route doing it as they have.

Plate would be expensive and relatively uncommon. Chain is heavy. Really heavy. Leather (along with small scales or plates clad in leather) was a very common armor material.
