I really like that guy they got for Stannis. As Alan said, he made a great Jefferson in the John Adams series, and he’s been great in a couple of other movies (44 Inch Chest, and some movie about a young golfer played by Shia Leboeuf). I’m intrigued by this.
The woman chosen for Melisandre looks a lot like Cate Blanchett to me.

The guy they got for Davos looks perfect, except that he’s 10-15 years too old.
I like Stannis. Melisandre looks ok – IMO she should be hotter. ;-)

I got the impression that he was getting very gaunt/skinny after some of the Melisandre stuff.
As I recall, he has the big Baratheon frame, but is wiry where Robert was fleshy. I think there was at least one point where Davos notes that Stannis takes little pleasure in eating and consumes only as much as necessary. And yeah, after his defeat on the Blackwater, he goes into seclusion with the Red Woman and when Davos sees him next he looks more thin and worn.
I like those three choices. It might just be Dotrice’s reading of him, but my vision of Davos was of a tired, middle-aged man, so Cunningham works for me.
I wanted Shirley Manson as Melisandre! She would’ve done a great job, playing the ambiguity and haughtiness (hotness too) perfectly.

Too bad she’s such a terrible actress.

It just struck me. Iain Glen - who plays Jorah Mormont - looks like a young yet slightly gruffier Charlton Heston.
I like all the castings. If you have the original Storm of Swords look at the Stannis on the cover and then look at that actor. They nailed it. Davos and Mage Tyrell are also excellent.
I think you mean Clash of Kings.

Mace Tyrell hasn’t been cast yet, either.

Yes John you are correct. I did mean Clash of Kings! Thanks!
Also I was not referencing Mace but his daughter whose name spelling I cannot get right so I call her Mage…
Magaery???
No Karstarks and no Boltons yet? BOOOOOOOOOO
Margaery was cast a while back. She’s being played by the Boleyn girl in Tudors.
I’m expecting the Karstarks to be cut, considering there has been no mention of the two sons dying in the Whispering Wood.
They haven’t really had to be mentioned yet. I doubt they’ll be cut entirely, because they’re a big part of the whole, “Robb wins his battles but loses his war” theme.

They don’t really have a big part in Clash, unless I’m remembering wrong. An easy cut IMO. Bolton’s another story though, unless they want to change Arya’s bit completely. I’m bad with actors, who has the appropriately creepy eyes for the part?

I picture Jeffrey Combs in my mind’s eye when reading about Roose Bolton.

That isn’t a half bad choice.

They’re going to be pretty important come the next book though, so I don’t see completely excluding them.
The impact of the Karstark/Bolton storylines will be lessened if the characters are not introduced until those storylines happen. Characters will pop up from nowhere, do things, and the audience won’t understand the larger context. Both actors should have been cast for the first season and at the very least stood silently in the background when Robb met with the Greatjon.
The Karstarks, especially, are getting shortchanged. I can’t see how their later storyline can have any real impact given that they haven’t even been shown yet.
