Don’t skip Book 1. While the series covers all the notable points, there’s still a bunch of stuff that got cut. Not to mention the book is really good, and you’re going to miss a ton of detail and dialogue.

Also, this is to you and the rest of the newcomers to the series/books. STOP READING THIS THREAD. There’s a non-spoiler thread if you search for it. Seriously, I can’t say this enough, you DO NOT want to get spoiled.

Thanks (out of the thread, dont want to be spoiled.)

Another new trailer! This one’s aimed at women, as its theme is love and its focus is on the female characters. And don’t you just love your first glimpse of Asha/Yara and Ygritte?

Rattling off those extra character names makes me realize that the producers and writers have hopefully done a good job in dealing with all these new, additional factions and faces. I can imagine it getting hard for those who haven’t read the books keeping track of all the players involved in the second season. I know my wife said she struggled a bit last season once Robert/Ned hit King’s Landing and the council members and court personalities were thrown into the mix.

Finished the last 5 episodes of Season 1, my gosh it was a good first season.

Not having read the books, its better, since I don’t have a clue of whats going to happen next. :)

I am probably going to subscribe for season 2, as I am not going to be able to wait a whole year for a Season 2 Blu release.

Get out of this thread - it is spoiler-riffic

Damn I want to do that…Target had it on sale for that as well.

HBO synopsis for first five eps. MAJOR SPOILERS, but holy hell, this season is going to be awesome. No need to spend 5 episodes introducing everything. It’s full throttle from the get go. (An LA Times writer says the first death happens 4 seconds in.)

Oh, damn. I am so psyched for this to start back up!

Hmm, sounds like they’re cutting Roose Bolton out. Hope that’s a wrong assumption to make.

Bolton has been cast. These are just synposes; they don’t spell everything out. Basically, the cable networks will trim these down and these will be what appears on interactive episode guides and episode listings.

Ah, cool. The line about Arya/Gendry arriving at Harrenhal and being in the hands of the Mountain worried me. I haven’t read Clash since 2003, but I do recall Harrenhal flipping ownership a number of times.

well, the first 3 episodes cover thee first 450 pages of the book. So essentially half of the whole story.

So dudes, the wildest thing has happened. I started watching my blu-ray set over the weekend and my wife was sitting next to me and just kind of got caught up in it. Of course since you don’t know her you don’t know how truly unusual this is - she has very little patience for fiction and doesn’t particularly like violence or fantasy. But she’s getting into the intrigue and the characters, even if she does ask me quite a few questions about who all these people are and how they relate. But I’ll take what I can get!

I’m watching the weekly episodes from Season 1 as they run them up to the new season. I’m really loving seeing them again, and can’t wait for Season 2.

Excellent! I finally got my brother-in-law to read the first book before the show came on. This led to my sister catching part of the first couple of episodes and she was somehow hooked too. Now she’s read the first three books in the past 6 months and she’s nowhere near the fantasy/sci-fi type.

I went through the same general progression with my wife, who admittedly has an ever-so-tiny sliver of respect for decent sci-fi. Once she started to see the level of actual, you know, plot in the story she got hooked quickly. Every other day I get the question: “When is Game of Thrones starting again?”

My g/f and I can’t wait for the second season to start. Greatly looking forward to it.

And with all the positive press Peter Dinklage has been getting HBO couldn’t have asked for a better season 2 plot where Tyrion really gets to come into his own. Of all the books I think the Tyrion chapters from A Clash of Kings might be some of my favorites.
