This is the thread where we freely post spoilers and upcoming events.
I think Alan was saying the he was afraid that the show would change events so the shadow monster posesses Brienne and uses her to kill Renly instead of the way it happens in the book.
That would be a weird change.
<addressing several points above>
I too thought those might be Unsullied when they first marched out. Since they had already skipped the dead city and some other desert events I figured maybe they were just going to combine Quarth and Qohor for brevity. But then they didn’t make any mention of them, and Jorah at least would have know they were Unsullied and said something, so then it seemed the entire scene got thinner and less relevant as it went on. Finally, I can’t really imagine combining Quarth and Qohor, as two very different yet dramatic events happen to Dany on those cities. Although, if they cut the warlocks of Quarth out altogether, then maybe it would work. But then you have no prophecy…
It doesn’t bother me that they cut Storm’s End out. Perhaps they’re going to use Gendry in place of Robert’s other bastard that Ser Courtney was protecting there, but in any event it’s a minor change. My wife was already complaining that this season seems a lot harder to follow than last, and trying to work in Storm’s End, another bastard, and everything that goes with it would have been even more confusing for non-readers. Combining Melissandre’s birthing the shadow with Renly’s death will make for better TV.
One thing that I did find needlessly confusing : Robb’s conversation with the woman on the battlefield. At first I thought "Oh, this is how they’ll introduce his eventual wife, but then he asks her name and it’s not Jeyne, and then she leaves. WTF? If the only reason that scene existed was for exposition about how Robb feels about the conflict, that could easily have been done with an existing character. No need to toss yet another character into the mix and confuse readers and non-readers alike.
If Brienne gets possessed it changes everything. It really does make her responsible for Renly’s death, even if she wasn’t in control. The whole reason Catelyn decideds to save Brienne was base don her not really believing she was responsible for Renly’s death, and that would not be the case if possession occurs. I hope they don’t go that route. Spend the money to show the CGI Stannis killing Renly and preserve that bit of the story at least.
Yes. Other than showing once again that Joffrey is evil, no really, we mean it, super crazy sadistic evil, I mean he’s nuts evil, and hey did you like the nudity? scene, the battlefield medic scene was odd. I also thought she was going to be Jeyne, but she wasn’t so then I was confused.
Of course everyone was wondering how they’d even show the Prophecy and how’d that all come down in the show. There might be a better way of going about it that’s a lot shorter and less difficult to convey.
I still think that’s the person Robb falls in love with but they might have changed the name to avoid upcoming confusion with Jeyne Poole. Or wait, didn’t they kill off Jeyne behind the scenes in season one? I thought there was like one throwaway line someplace during the uprising/coup sequence…
I dunno why I suddenly thought this about how Renly will go down… It was just this sudden fear they’d go this route–she would get possessed, make her truly responsible for Renly’s death, and Catelyn would see all of it, or at least see the shadow form leave or something. It’d make everything much more emotional and dramatic. The other members of the Rainbow Guard would see that she actually did it. Maybe it was something I caught at the end of the trailer that had Brienne in it. I dunno. I kinda hope not…

Put me in the camp that thinks this is his eventual wife - that he gets wounded besieging her castle and she heals him up and ‘comforts’ him.
Much easier to me to change the name for some reason. I don’t see the actress listed at imdb.
I have to add that I really, really dig Bronn as well as the dude that plays him. He seems to be enjoying himself so much, sometimes just kicking back watching Tyrion be a badass, like with the “THAT was a threat. See the difference?” bit. He’s my favorite secondary character at the moment.
Oonah Chaplin, grandaughter of Charlie.
In an interview with The Daily Telegraph that was published on August 11, 2011, Chaplin confirmed she had secured a role in the second season.[1] This was later confirmed to be Jeyne Westerling.[2] She joined the cast as a guest star in the second season. Her character introduces herself as Talisa rather than Jeyne when she first appears in "Garden of Bones

So Arya is Tywin’s cupbearer? Wasn’t that Roose Bolton in the books? That seems like kind of a big change, if it means they are going to eliminate or downplay the Boltons. That doesn’t seem wise, given their involvement in Winterfell, the Red Wedding, and large swaths of plot in book 5. I’m surprised to see no comments on this anywhere.
They even had Robb talking to Bolton right after the battle!
Actually I think it’ll make it just so Tywin gets more screen time and Arya gets to keep the same job when Roose Bolton eventually comes into town (having him in the last episode was actually kinda cool, and I thought Bolton was portrayed fairly well).

I don’t think that breaks continuity too much - you have Cat and Brienne both swearing to one story and the Rainbow Guard swearing to another.
In last night’s episode?
I wonder if they’ll still do the whole Jaqen Hragar thing where he gives Arya three free kills in exchange for saving him and the other two from the cage and fire. It’s pretty central to the plot and how Harrenhall falls to Robb’s men.
Are we considering the scenes from next week’s episode spoilers?
You didn’t see him? He was talking to Robb right after the battle with the big ol’ spread-eagled flayed dude stamped on his upper chest piece. Robb even calls him by his last name.

In the preview he definitely says this.

Well, I haven’t watched the whole episode yet, only a couple of scenes. Thanks, Alan.
Yes. He was talking about torturing prisoners and Robb was saying he wouldn’t.
I agree with most posters on the various sub-plot/character cuts so far this season, but my main gripe would be the failure to show that Stannis has made his move, he left Dragonstone with his army and sailed to Westeros where he’s besieging the Baratheon seat. No one I know who watches the show without having read the books realized that.
If they cut the Red Viper in season 3, though, I’m gonna hurt someone.
