I’m guessing to remind people about Robb, so he isn’t totally forgotten about by the people watching who haven’t read the books.
Well, the good thing about Robb is that even when he’s not physically onscreen, he’s often being discussed, as in other war council scenes with Stannis or Tywin. It’s easier to forget about Jon, whose plot is moving at a snail’s pace this season.
I’m also in total agreement that the series needs far more Dolorous Edd scenes.
“We will defend the wall to the last man!” said Cotter Pyke.
“Probably me.” Said Dolorous Edd, in a resigned voice.
I seem to recall that the wildfire was Cersei’s idea (??) but that Tyrion identified that a plan which involves 1) WILDFIRE 2) ??? 3) VICTOLY won’t work due to all the reasons covered.
At the risk of getting corrected by someone who remembers the books better than I do, I thought the stockpiled wildfire was left over from a long time ago, possibly Targaeryen days. I think, though I’m less certain, that Varys first tells Tyrion about it. Cersei was having people make armour, not wildfire, and Tyrion gets them to make the chain instead.
As for Dolorous Edd, he always reminded me too much of Eeyore to work as a character.
Bear in mind that in spite of the “HBO” in the thread title, this is, by arbitrary hivemind fiat, the book-readers-spoilertastic thread, so people are just going to drop things in from 5000+ pages of the books. And there are loops and whorls in the books which the TV series (probably wisely) omitted for simplicity/comprehension/economy.
On the other hand, I doubt you’d have been all that distressed by the paragraph-length-gloss-over-able shadow birthing in prose form, so, mediums have their advantages.
This.
Oh also, was there a single boob in this whole episode or any particularly gruesome OTT violence? Might be good one to bring up the next time someone says it’s too sexual/violent.

(Book 2 and 3 spoilers:)
Who were Jaqen’s kills in the book? I seem to recall one of them was the servant master Arya was working for at the time, who has obviously been cut, so I’m wondering who the second one in the show is going to be. The only other named side character introduced so far in Harrenhal is Polliver. But if he dies now too, there’s no way to have the scene with the recovery of needle in Storm of Swords.
One was definitely Weese, as you point out, and the second one escapes me, although I just finished reading the second book over the weekend.

On the other hand… why oh why can’t this be?

Arya names Weese and Chiswyck (had to look up that name - a wasted pick for sure!) for Jaqen to kill, and of course the final name is Jaqen’s own.
Chiswyck was one of the Mountain’s soldiers and was killed by being pushed off the wall.
Chiswyck was bragging about the raping they were doing on the last raid when Arya overhears them, and that pisses her off.
It’s after Chiswyck is killed and when Tywin is departing that she realizes that she wasted a prime opportunity, especially when she realizes that Tywin is going after her brother. But, remember, she’s barely only 11 or 12 in the books.
They haven’t really set up Chiswyck in the TV series yet, so it would be weird if Arya used up one of her kills on some random dude.
I remember now, the bit where that guy is casually bragging about raping some innkeeper’s daughter is horrific sounding, but at the same time Martin wrote it with such a good ear that I could hear an appropriately-lowlife British accent in my head as I was reading it.
Thanks. I expect they’re going to have to introduce and kill someone in the same episode, and Chiswyck sounds the easiest to fit in like that.
Or maybe Arya will name Tywin and Roz will show Tyrion where whores really go. :/

I’m having a problem that I thought you guys might be able to solve. I read Game of Thrones some years ago, liked it well enough and stopped there. Now, for some reason, I find myself reading A Clash of Kings, but I’m having trouble recalling who some of the characters are. I’m afraid to read up on them on Wiki, because I fear their biographies might contain information from the later books. I read the summary of Game of Thrones on Wiki, but I’m still having trouble. Can anyone recommend a site where I safely could read up on the complex family trees and such?
Check out Tower of the Hand. You can set it to only display information from the books you have already read.
