Agree. I thought the first four were weak, and this one as well. They are going to have to wrap up a lot of threads in the last two episodes.

Really its only one since this week is supposed to be dedicated pretty much to the battle.

The Season 2 soundtrack came out a month early on iTunes. The big surprise is a spoiler.

The National (Yes, The National) covers The Rains of Castamere.

Holy Crap. That’s also a season earlier than expected.

And there’s an even HUGER SPOILER in the song list that I won’t reveal.

THE NATIONAL?! That’s really cool

Yeah, they really shouldn’t have included the song “The Ballad of Mad King Joffrey Who Was Killed By A Sword Thrust To The Kneecap By Stannis Baratheon” - that was way over the top.

That’s… WTF??? Talk about ratcheting things into overdrive.

FYI I can’t find it on iTunes–did it get taken down?

Looks like. I could see why HBO would be pissed. They not only broke street by a month, but that song list was very spoilery. The National cover was a total surprise.

I managed to buy it last night. It feels stronger than Season One. Joffrey’s “Kill all the bastards” theme is pretty damn moving, in a martial kind of way.

Why do you think Rains mean they are doing RW early? I would assume that they’re playing it now to establish the song so that it pays off later.

I’m not really sure of the spoilers you’re talking about…there’s no way it’s referring to the RW. They can’t set that up AND enact it in episode 10. Is there something else I missed on the track list? The Three Blasts maybe?

I do supposed theoretically they can use it for the end credits for season 2, or leading up to it, just showing that the Lannisters have basically prevailed.

Good call- probably a montage.

Wow, never knew it but found it randomly on Youtube’s related links, but Tyrion is actually whistling part of this song when walking in on the Small Council in the first episode of the 2nd season. He’s again whistling it when he goes strolling around the Hand’s Tower.

— Alan

Edit: there’s some additional clips as well where it’s used as background music or more appropriately, the “Lannister theme”, so I’m fairly convinced that it’ll be used as a montage near the end but not to depict the RW.

Well, that was a motherloving battle scene, all right.

And Tyrion gets a facial scar!!!

The wildfire explosion was neat, but otherwise…

“Even though I pay you, we still have a friendship.”

“The paying enhances the friendship!”

Until the last charge it seemed like there were 35 people in the battle between the two sides.

Holy crap, that was one terrible episode in my opinion…wow. Loved the Bronn-Tyrion exchange and the near Bronn-Hound showdown but most of the rest was a real stinker.

  • It took 3 seconds for Tyrion’s group to completely eradicate the force that was frightening the hell out of the defenders, having them quaking in fear, ready to turn heel and run? Really?

  • Does EVERY SINGLE DEATH have to be incredibly ridiculous?? Whose idea was it to have heads slicing in half, bodies slicing in half, rocks exploding heads, legs flying off at the swing of a 3’ non-soldier, spears sinking through fully helmeted heads at the hands of a squire, etc…holy crap. I’m surprised the Hound didn’t completely cut someone in half head to crotch too, or slice the heads off four conveniently grouped enemies with one swing.

  • The fate of Tyrion’s entire plan rested on ONE arrow shot by Bronn? Good thing he didn’t miss I guess because it sure didn’t look like they had any kind of backup plan. I mean I guess it’s dramatic and all, but wow…I didn’t even realize he was an archer.

  • EDIT: Had to come back and mention the amazing ability of Stannis to lead the charge up a ladder without a helmet and somehow survive without a scratch. First man up the ladder and there’s no one there to shove a spear in his neck? The archers were all too busy to take a shot at the obvious King-type striding up from the beach? And no one of any note wore a helmet at all, except Tyrion, who lost it before the precision strike on his cheek.

I guess I had high hopes for this one since they spent so much of their season’s budget on it…probably expected too much but still, a lot of this just didn’t make sense.

The gore was a bit absurd (head cut in half, and the one leg being cut clean off mostly) and the push to secure the exterior of the gate was kind of weak, but other than that the episode was pretty fantastic I thought.
