MARTIN: I have to have the next book out in less than five years. And I think the Jets have taken a step back.
5 years? Good grief, George.
Catching up to s02e09, I must say it’s nice to see Cersei getting some screen time, she’s quite a character.
Battle was at times actually very good. They still can’t seem to afford the sheer numbers of extras that would make for a true spectacle, but the unobtrusive CGI does its best to make the scene richer in stuff going on. And the fight choreography was great, gritty and brutal.
The wildfire explosion was beautiful, and the scene in the wake of the explosion with the dabs of green fire and normal fire amongst the wrecked ships was haunting.
Sansa showing her wolfish backbone in calming the ladies down with a sing-song.
Half-man awesome throughout, as is Bron (super-awesoms as he’s facing off the Hound).
Some splendidly gratuitous headshots and the like :D

What the hell. At this point we’re never going to get the final book.

I wonder if he just said that to torture the fans.
I think he meant to convey that he’s got to produce book 6 in less time than it took for books 4 or 5.
So during the big fight where was the red priestess? You’d think winning that battle was pretty important. Was her pussy still on cooldown?

Eh?? What does that mean?

oh - thanks! Weird way to write it, then.
Anyways - I’m getting a bit tired of all the changes in the show, but my GF who hasn’t read the book, still loves the show. As someone else noted, one should probably just leave behind anything one remembers from the books, and enjoy the show. Its just hard!

It’s torrent-speak. You’re just showing your virtue.

She was left behind as Stannis thought he could do this on his own, at least that’s the impression I got from the book. And her “ability” is more of a one on one thing I think, not good for massive battles.
Pretty much – evidently someone missed the conversation a week or two ago when Davos implored Stannis not to take the city with her, because then it would be her triumph, and not his.
I can see Stannis leaving her behind for that reason, if there’s anything that would put him off having his mage around for battles it’s the idea that she’d get all the loot. Plus it’s not really clear what she might have done. Offhand, I’d say that only getting in the city quicker would have been enough to change the outcome. So maybe if she has ‘bash in the gate’ magic, he might have wanted her around. The things that went wrong for Stannis, Tyrion being a competent leader and his dad showing up, weren’t on his radar so I don’t see her helping him in that area.
Yeah, the gist of it is that if he brought her along, then everyone, including the smallfolk, would take about how Stannis took the throne by sorcery. In other words, she won it for him.
So he leaves her on Dragonstone. After he gets the lords of the Stormlands on his side (they are the traditional vassals of House Baratheon, and were sworn to Renly), he has a large army and navy, and should be able to take King’s Landing with ease.
What he didn’t count on was Tyrion slowing his assault and weakening his forces while House Tyrell (one of the Great Houses of the land, along with the Starks, Lannister, Baratheons, etc) cut a deal with Tywin Lannister.
Renly’s huge advantage was that he had married into the Tyrells, thus creating an alliance between two of the Great Houses. Every other Great House was on its own. But with the Tyrell’s joining forces with the Lannisters, it means that Joffrey’s now got two Great Houses backing his cause. Stannis has been knocked out, most of his army has been killed or captured, and his navy was gutted. And Robb is basically on his own.
Also metadata speak, I used to work at this gem of a website: http://www.cinemanow.com/ sortin’ porn.
Empire does a 30-minute podcast with Neil Marshall about the episode.

Thanks for the link, good interview!
He actually touched on one of my few problems with the episode and that was Stannis climbing the walls and joining in the fight like he did. It’s fairly minor and I can see why he went that way, but I felt it was a bit out of character for Book Stannis to be on the front lines like that.
I like this tidbit from the Marshall podcast
Empire: I have a question about the nudity. We didn’t bring this up with George when he was here, but obviously it’s kind of become a thing in pop culture—the amount of nudity and “sexposition” scenes in Game of Thrones. You have a sexposition scene in this. Can you talk about that? [Laughter] What’s your position on sexposition?
Neil Marshall: It was pretty surreal. I’d not done anything like that in my films before. But the weirdest part was when you have one of the exec producers leaning over your shoulder, going, “You can go full frontal, you know. [Laughter] This is television—you can do whatever you want! And do it! I urge you to do it.” So I was like, “Okay, well, if you—you’re the boss.”
'twas just my little joke ahem
But you’ve got to wonder why half the comments here only come a few days after the episode :D
