I was all set to order HBO again (temporarily) for Game of Thrones, and… $18 / month. For that, I can buy season 3 on Blu Ray. Not right now, of course, but the going rate has certainly been less than $54.
You can’t get a deal with your cable company? I’m paying $5/month for HBO, and that’s not a new subscription offer, either.
I did find some Game of Thrones beer this afternoon at Central Market, which is a yuppie supermarket that makes Whole Foods and Trader Joes look like grubby dime stores. It wasn’t on the shelves, but one of the beer stockers was there and I asked and he got it from the back. They’re going to shelve them tomorrow. $11.99 for mine. Saving it for Sunday.
Central Market is HEB’s super-high-end grocery chain that is basically meant to compete with Whole Foods (in fact they started to compete with them in Austin, which is a bold move). HEB is traditionally a low-end chain that is very common in some ares (mid- to southern-Texas, etc.). They seem to appreciate good beers and wines though, so this doesn’t surprise me at all. They also believe in the Ikea-style pathway type of grocery store, where you’re lead by the nose from one department to the other.

Seattle’s Central Market is a totally different company.

HEB is a monster but they have not moved North yet. They are currently focused on Texas and Mexico, from what I can gather. I live in San Antonio and the HEB I go to is sort of a hybrid of their central market concept and their normal store, and I love it. Between Amazon and HEB, they probably get 20% of my net.
My Time Warner bill has grown to $184/month (internet, hbo, showtime, skinemax). I need to call and threaten switching to U-verse. After season 3 is over.
Not so I can tell. I tried calling DirecTV to see if I could get a better rate, and their voice menu system was quite effective at preventing me from actually talking to anyone. Asking about HBO got an automated “I can add HBO for $18 / month” yes / no decision, to which I said “no.”

I am so pumped for the premier of Season 3. I am not sure I can recall a single day where there is more programming I am interested in. Game of Thrones premier. Walking Dead season finale. Vikings and Bible on History channel (TBH I have not watched any of either series yet, just recorded them all). Heat @ Spurs, likely preview of the NBA Finals. And 2 NCAA tournament games that should be good, Duke-Louisville especially.
I ended up calling Fri and got my bill down to $124/month by cancelling Showtime and Cinemax ($10 each) and by taking advantage of a 12-month deal they’re offering new/current customers.
Renewed for Season 4 already. Article mentions Season 4 will be second half of Book 3, Storm of Swords, as we all have long suspected.
It says ‘expected to be’ second half of ASoS. They already said that the RW is in season 3, and that’s more like two thirds of the way through the book. I suspect they’ll have to draw from each of the last 3 books to do season 4.
If they’re telling it in strict chronological order, then they’ll have no choice but to start merging stuff into the series from later books.
Why are you even referring to this event in the non-spoiler thread? Get thee to the other thread!

This is the spoiler thread.
No it ain’t. This is the real spiler thread. It even has Spoiler in the url.

This is an incredibly tedious argument, but the fact remains that this has always been the general spoiler thread.
This is and always has been the spoiler thread. Look back over it, it’s chock full of spoilers. This is a stupid argument, if you read this thread, you’re likely to be spoiled. People who have read the books have been posting spoilers in here for over a hundred pages, you can’t expect us all to magically just know that we’re not allowed to any more. There’s a whole thread that is explicitly the non-spoiler thread. If you open this thread, you’re likely to see spoilers.
True. I suspect after this season HBO will need to start weaving pieces of Swords, Feast and Dance together to continue to tell the story in chronological order. Nobody is going to want to watch a TV show where half the characters disappear for an entire season. That could get tricky though, as the way they seem to be paring out many things to make the TV story easier to understand means that they could be looking at as few as 3 more seasons after this one. GRRM needs to get to work!
I get that. What’s confusing is there’s also a thread that’s explicitly the spoiler thread. Do we really have 3 different GoT season 3 threads? Seems odd when we also have spoiler tags as an option.
