Someone in the non-spoiler thread posted about how they can’t wait for Daenerys to go storm Kings landing.

All I could think was, “me too”. That’s not much of a spoiler, except for perhaps the pacing of the next 3 books.

So, hey, SPOILER thread - at asoiaf - someone casually predicted that we will see this in the next episode E06: The Climb

Theon Spoiler

Theon gets castrated.

It was my understanding and belief, based on much later scenes - that this never happened - instead, I thought that this happened:

Theon Spoiler

Theon lost the twig, but not the berries, after months of torture

PS, that’s a pretty major Theon spoiler, if it is true (and relevant to the story) - as with all things - GRRM is never 100% clear on what happens.

Speculating on the rest of the show (and a few notes), I still think it ends with Joffrey’s wedding, which will be a nice way to finish up the season. They’re making a lot of the wedding preparations, so I can’t see them waiting out for the beginning few episodes of Season 4. Doesn’t seem like there are any Martells cast, so it would back up my assumption that they are written out of this season completely, though might be referenced. I do see that Steelshanks is cast, and will appear in the next episode. The guy who played Walder Frey in season one is actually back, and there are a few other listed Freys as well by the Red Wedding. George RR Martin is the listed writer for Episode 7.

I disagree completely - the title of the Episode points towards Dany wrapping things up.

I think Joffrey and Margaery’s wedding sets up Season 4 well - I see it as a good thing for Episode 3 or 4 next year.

I’d love to see Joffrey’s wedding but I think Walter’s right. The episode titles are a giveaway.

Before the season started I thought, since they’re splitting book 3 into two seasons, each season(3&4) would end with a wedding. So the question becomes, which one? All things considered, as in what the ramifications are and what that means to the cast of the show, I thought the immediate wedding(Joff’s) would be this season’s finale. It’s a pretty good OMFG moment, while at the same time allowing next season to still have certain conflicts in play.

But now, after watching these first episodes, I’m more inclined to think they might pull a Godfather approach, where one thing is going on(wedding #1) and they crosscut to the other one going on at the same time but a different location(RW). Season 4 would then consist of the fallout from the weddings in general, with the season finale being the most awesome crappy scene ever.

I’m pretty sure episode 9 is the red wedding and the 10th will possibly feature the other wedding, but I have my doubts based on the title. Either way, I’m excited!

That would suck, because I think each wedding is a high point, except by putting one immediately after another that will dull the impact of the second one. Both in one episode would make that the most jaw dropping episode ever, OR they could space them apart to allow the audience to relax before being hit with a second whammy.

I am confident that the royal wedding will kick off season 4. Then that, the arrival of the Martels, the trial, and the escape will all happen in the same season. The problem then, is the timing of Jamie’s arrival in King’s Landing. He’s supposed to arrive after the royal wedding to find things… as they are at that point.

Then again, how important is it for Jamie to not be at the wedding? I’m not entirely sure him being there would have really changed anything.

They’ve had #9 be for the biggest event of he season with Ned’s execution and Blackwater so it follows to have the “Red Wedding” in nine too.

Also episode 9 is called “The Rains of Castamere”.

As for Jamie being at the wedding… it would change things a little. He’s meant to arrive at KL to find everything gone to hell, and he’s not sure what to think. He hasn’t seen Tyrion since Winterfell. If he is able to speak to Tyrion before the wedding… plus he might intervene when Joff is being a mega-douche towards Tyrion. It’s not that it couldn’t work, but it would not work as well. Additionally, it raises the issue of what Jamie does in the extra time he’s there.

Rains of Castamere is such a great song!

Hrm. Not a great episode. The whole Melisandre-Thoros-Gendry scene was a complete 180 from anything that happened in the book wasn’t it?

Baelish’s speech was supposed to be powerful, but I was too busy trying to make sense if what I was seeing to pay attention to it.

The wall stuff was terrible. And Sam, but at least we finally saw some obsidian.

Yes. And turning Ramsay into a Karstark? sigh

Ramsay is a liar . . . . right?

Yeah, he has to be - the giant flaying cross that Theon is strapped to is on every Bolton breastplate.

This show sets up later events -

  • Much more sympathy for Robb Stark now, as he admits his errors to his bannermen
  • Jon Snow and Ygritte get some screen and chemistry time
  • Sam gets to show off his shiny dragonglass dagger

Tywin + Queen of Thorns was wonderful
Littlefinger + Varys - always good
Cersei + Tyrion . . . interesting when they are almost on the same side . . .

Well, the nameless torturer also said that he lied. I can also do without Theon.

Well at least we won’t have to worry about you guys complaining about the addition of Ros any more.

Her death certainly amped up the menace factor, it’s about to get very dark in Westeros.

Episode was great even if the ice slide seemed a bit far fetched. I too am completely confused about how far off script they’ve gone regarding Gendry, the Red Woman and the various possible hints thrown out “you’re not supposed to have this power,” etc.

Also, the torturer clearly is the deadfort guy. He’s just fucking with Theon.
