The Wife and I watched the episode last night, and despite being spoiled and semi-prepared for what’s happened, she was massively depressed at the whole thing. She wondered aloud why she would keep watching the show if they were just going to keep maiming, torturing and killing all the characters at a whim.

I imagine that watching next week would do it anyway, but I talked her down by reminding her that in the GoT universe, certain people (e.g., Dundarian) come back from the dead. She then hammered me with questions and I grudgingly told her that at least one of the people killed at the RW will be back. She went to bed angry with me for withholding information and resolved to download Storm on the Kindle so that she doesn’t have to wait until next March for her answers.

I tend to agree. The books left you wondering whether Jayne was a witting or unwitting pawn of the Lannisters’. The show leaves little room for doubt regarding Talisa’s loyalties. Of course, I was hoping that we’d hear more from Jayne Westerling in later books, but I dare say that the show’s finality means GRRM won’t waste any more ink on her.

Yup. I’m actually really surprised I didn’t get it spoiled for me before I watched. I was too tired to watch Sunday night, so I watched it on Monday. While obliviously browsing the internet as usual I saw someone on Facebook say, “Well that wedding didn’t go so well” and then some comments about how it was related to Game of Thrones. I also had a friend text me about how GoT is terrible. So I knew something was going to go down at a wedding, but still was completely stunned when THAT happened.

Also, I wish there was still discussion going on in the non-spoiler thread or that book spoilers got spoiler tagged in this thread. I want to check out the discussion here, but it’s too risky to read this thread.

Originally I was thinking that they would save Joffrey’s wedding for next season. But I just remembered there was a decent amount of time talking about wedding preparations in prior episodes. Maybe that will end the season.

The Red Wedding wasn’t that shocking (I didn’t read the books). Probably because I read a preview or review saying somewhere that GRR has no issue killing off his characters… the beheading of Ned Stark was terrible in season 1 but once you realize that he kills or anyone and everyone there is no shock value thereafter.

Still a pretty good series… but, I dont know, season 1 was the best.

Yeah, I think that, given the devastation amongst many viewers caused by this episode, the writers would be wise to have Joffrey getting his come-uppance at the end of the Season. That would leave a sense of “all bets off” for next season, and hopefully a sense of intrigue as to how things will go.

I sure hope they finally put Joff out of our misery this season as a small consolation to the viewers for Robb’s, Talisa’s and Cat’s deaths.

I’ll be very suprised if Joffrey’s wedding happens in the final episode of this season. There’s a lot to cram into that one episode for that to happen.

I dont understand why you people who haven’t read the books are in this thread.

Seconded. This goes back to the discussion of sorts we had earlier in the thread about what parts of Storm would make it into Season 3 and what would be leftover for Season 4. I think you have to carry Joffrey’s wedding over to Season 4 unless you drastically alter the timeline of events, which thus far the show has not done.

Book Spoiler!

I believe the season finale will revolve around Jon returning to Castle Black and warning them of the impending Wildling attack, Sam and Bran crossing paths, Tyrion and Sansa’s continued struggles in King’s Landing and Dany’s increasing infatuation with Dario. I think the episode will end with the attack on Castle Black and Jon’s subsequent killing of Ygritte, which will undoubtedly result in more delicious internet tears.

I’m looking forward to next season. Tyrion will be getting a lot of face time then. Not so enthusiastic about the plodding politics the Mother of Dragons will have to go through to keep her rule though.

I remember those being ‘close together’ in the books. The asofai wiki also implies they were quite close together.

Word reaches King’s Landing of the death of King Robb Stark at the Red Wedding […] Joffrey is exaltant, particularly keen on the gory detail that Robb’s direwolf’s head was sewn on his body, and Catelyn’s body was hurled naked into the Green Fork. Margaery and Joffrey’s wedding is held, but Joffrey spends more time tormenting his uncle Tyrion than paying attention to his wife.

In my head (coloured by time) I remember the red wedding happening and then Joffrey, flush with ‘his’ win becoming even more petulent, getting his due. There was a long leadup with Sansa and her knight-jester but that was obviously all cut.

Loving all the tweets. Quite amazed how many people get the names wrong though. Aryan Stark, Rob Snow, Rod Stark, Ron Stark, Kathryn Stark, Walter Frey, Walder Fries, etc.

Yeah I’m fairly certain now it’ll be next season, probably around episode 3-4. Maybe the 1st just to set the tone. I imagine there will be quite a few compilation videos of that one going around.

Let’s face it… you don’t want to get married in Westeros.

Not really, there’s only a few chapters in the book between the Red Wedding and Joffrey’s death, with nothing particularly consequential apart from some stuff up at the Wall, which could easily be done. Dany could just arrive at Mereen. There’s a Davos chapter, some Tyrion, and that’s about it - Joffrey gets the chop after that. And we’ve already been well set up for Joffrey’s wedding and the thorniness of the Queen of Thorns.

They have to give the viewers some resolution to counterbalance what they’ve just seen, or they’ll just give up on the show as a predictable show in which “everyone nice gets killed”.

Isn’t that how you can tell that a lot of them are trolling? :)

People should regularly reread the OP, IMO, as it currently contains this . And apperantly has since at least April, 2013.

SPOILER WARNING:

THIS IS THE MOTHER OF ALL FREAKING GAME OF THRONES SPOILER THREADS.

DON’T EVEN THINK OF PARTAKING IN THIS THREAD IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE LATEST BOOK IN THE SERIES.

So, this is the non-spoiler thread, right?

:)

THIS IS… never mind :p

Or it’s mother. I’m confused now with that whole internet spoiler free zone thing.
