As pointed out, Joffrey’s wedding happens soon enough after the red wedding that I do not see how they will be able to hold it off until the 9th episode of doom. I expect it either the 1st or 2nd episode next season. I do not expect any other major character deaths this year though with the possible exception of Jon killing Ygritte(a twist from the novels). That is is a good last scene of the year.

The red wedding takes place in chapter 51 of 80 in SoS, so there is a fair amount of stuff left for next season.

In no order, things that happen between the red wedding and the end of SoS:

Spoiler

Joffreys wedding and death
Tyrion being accused of Joffreys death and the intrigue around that
Shae’s betrayal of Tyrion
Sack of Riverrun and escape of the Blackfish
Sansa’s escape to the Eyre
Tywins death
Lysa Arryn out the moon door
Wilding initial attack on the wall and Ygrittes death
Mance Raiders bigger attack on the wall
Stannis arrives at the wall
Jon elected commander
Arya begins her journey to Braavos
Mereen
Dany starts boning Daario
Jorahs betrayel is discovered.
Sam meets Bran
Catelyn Stark reappears
Plus they also have to figure out how to continue the Theon/House Greyjoy story.

I think the 2 biggest issues they are going to have is Dany’s story being somewhat thin and the Theon/House Greyjoy story elements they are going to insert into the story. Other than that I think there is plenty of stuff for 10 eipsodes of content.

Because it’s the thread where all the discussion is? And any time discussion starts in the other thread, someone comes in who has read everything and starts acting all smug, saying that something big is going to happen, which is annoying and can be a near spoiler in itself?

I’ve resigned myself to not trying to discuss the series on this board at all, which is a shame because I generally like the discussions here.

Before someone asks why I’m in the thread now; a lot of the spoilers were regarding this past wedding and I was curious on reactions and how others felt.

so who kills Joffrey? how does he die?

edit: ok, I googled it. Why did they kill him? what a shitty way to go… I would have hoped for a better death for that little guy

next question: who wins? (ie. who gets the Iron Throne and lives to tell about it?)

I don’t whine about spoilers, so hit me with it.

DrDel,

The series (books) isn’t finished yet, so only GRRM knows the answer to that question. Honestly, even he probably doesn’t know for sure.

Most likely the Tyrell’s. Because he is pretty much an awful person and it would be much easier for Margaery to manipulate Tommen and rule as queen regent.

Dr. Del I sent you a PM that should hopefully answer your questions.

Received. Thanks.

The whole thing seems pretty blah. I won’t spoil the spoiler thread with any spoilers since I was clued in thanks to Yo Rudy… I was hoping for something better.

Wouldn’t it be cool if 5 of the characters keep hearing a noise in the background, a familiar melody from childhood… they start becoming irritable, they have sleep problems… then they meet at the Court Gym. Once they realize who they actually are one of them kills the other as a revenge killing for the death of Cally. Another flies a fleet of ships into the Sun. The remaining three end up ruling the land of Westeros as the Holy Trinity which then gives birth to the Catholic church and we enter the New World as the New Testament gets written.

Fin.

Roll credits.

Fade to black.

I should have been a writer. Forget about GRR.

Rickon Stark.

You are assuming the Iron Throne remains the seat of power.

If Brandon through the continually stronger, returning magic becomes the puppeteer of the World (Hodor today - the World tomorrow), he might appoint his kid Brother as the figure head that sits on the Iron Throne.

Unless Rickon, through his Stark magic genes, becomes even stronger.

Or whatever GRRM cooks up.

I think “Jon and Dany get the dragon incest party going again” is another pretty likely outcome.

what does that mean exactly? and why the quotes?

Coming from someone who hasn’t read the books (and doesn’t care a whit about spoilers), the way the TV show keeps hitting on the story of the three dragonriders, I’m leaning toward that last one. who will be the third? I’m guessing Bran because they’ll bring it back to the harness Tyrion gave him plans for in season 1.

But Tyrion doesn’t know shit… and he dies. So the hardness doesnt mean anything (unless coinkidink (Newfie for “coincidence”).

Who are the other 2 dragon riders? I have to stop falling asleep during this show.

After learning the fate of a lot of these characters and how the story progresses… is GRR really that great of a story teller? Sorry to sound like a Hater… I dont mean to… but what makes this series of books any better that many other fantasy books?

Yeah, just coincidence Tyrion having gifted him those plans. Basically, I’m imagining a point at which when Winter Finally Comes, the Others start overrunning everything, and Dany + 2 more basically have to save the day riding around on dragons 'n shit. Jon would probably be as good a guess as any for one of them- he and Dany seem to be being set up as the outsiders to the current power struggle. Ultimately the crazy war happening right now is going to be irrelevant in the end- the movers and shakers right now will all be gone.

As much as I have enjoyed reading the books they are overly long and full of fluff. He keeps adding characters when you are hoping he will start putting the puzzle together instead of adding to it. He could easily drop dead before he finishes the series (based on past speed of publishing). I actually don’t recommend these books to anyone because of that.

I have this fear that after 7 books and waiting who knows how many years we will find out some character introduced in a book not yet written ends up on the Iron Throne, or some other place of great power, and that all this is just foreplay.

It’s a good bet that the “final hero(s)” won’t be somebody introduced in the last book but somebody who’s been in it more or less from the beginning, and liked. The point of having liked characters die off isn’t just for shits and giggles, it’s that you don’t know which liked character is going to make it to the end, so you’re on tenterhooks, and invested. Also, it might turn out that a disliked character redeems themselves, or a liked character goes to the bad - another source of uncertainty.

I don’t think GRRM is a moral relativist, or someone who sees only in shades of grey, or someone who’s into subverting tropes for subverting tropes’ sake. His concern is more simple and homely than that, he just wants to free up the genre from its worn-out grooves, so that you don’t automatically know how a fantasy story is going to turn out from the first page.

The historical model is a new character gets introduced in the last book and defeats the usurper with the twisted body (Henry VII defeat of Richard III). ;-)

I doubt he’ll do that - we’ve had to put up with Daenerys and Arya wandering aimlessly for an awful damn long time for them to bumped off without some sort of payoff. But fits and spurts, unseen twists and turns, death of major players was all part of the Hundred Years War and War of the Roses, which inspire at least parts of A Song of Fire and Ice. I just want him to finish the damn books before he dies from old age/extreme weight problems. HBO probably wants him to finish the books before they catch up to his latest book (“Is it now?”). That being said, I’m sure it is a major bitch to keep all the plot threads juggled and on time track and keep up the quality of writing.

I am pretty sure the Song of Ice and Fire just refers to Jon Snow. He is the only product of Ice and Fire, ie. Stark and Targaryen.

Ya know, I went into the non-spoiler thread and laughed a little bit when someone said something about how they couldn’t wait for Danni to march in to the 7 kingdoms with her dragons. I can’t wait either, but apparently GRRM hasn’t been able to write that bit yet. My big give-away in the non-spoiler thread wasn’t a give away - because nothing has yet happened to spoil. At the point where the TV show is, I would have expected that bit to come pretty soon, as opposed to multiple books and oh my god how many years…a decade at least of time waiting for him to write about it.
