I think its been mentioned upthread, but basically the show is accelerating some of the storylines (as the child actors are growing up too quickly as well) and cutting lots of stuff GRRM included (eg Iron Islands plot seems pretty absent). So basically at the end of the 5th season we’re probably on par with the books and some threads will even be passing into “unknown” territory already.

I see… I’m just at page 150 of this thread as I read them after the episodes I’ve finished, so I haven’t been following this closely. Thank you.
The Producers have already basically said the show will probably end after 7 seasons. You can’t go by the books as you posted as the show has already deviated in may places from them. The bottom line is the 4+ years its taking GRRM to get the books out means the show will be long over by the time he’s done.
The irony will be when people who read the book are pissed off it’s not the same as the show.

Saw the episodes and trailer in Imax and loved it.
I’ve only read the first book and part of the 2nd so far, so I"m ducking out of this thread quickly, but I loved how the trailer showed so many intriguing scenes and so many major events being hinted at, yet I don’t know the context for any of it and therefore have absolutely no idea what to expect. I’ve only had one character death spoiled for me and it’s not someone I expected to stick around anyway.

GRRM said last year (or earlier) that the show would at some point be on its own to finish the story. Any one reading the books would be aware of that.

I read that the GOT IMAX screenings earned the 2nd most per screen dollars this weekend, behind only American Sniper. Impressive.

That last line in the article could kind of be considered a spoiler, btw. Although, I would hope most people have read the books by now. ;)
“A Day in the Life” HBO special for season 5.
Very cool to see some of the production going on. The massive size of this show has been amazing to see evolve over the years. Season 5 will be interesting because we’re starting to head into some unchartered territory, and it’s actually fairly exciting to see what they do.

The Heart’s Home stuff was interesting. Either the show is going off-book, or it’s a thing that’s coming in later books that readers haven’t gotten to see yet.

I think you mean Hardhome, North of the Wall.
Ah, thanks for that. I misheard what they were saying!
Still, a battle at Hardhome with Jon Snow isn’t something from the books, is it?
It’s a spoilery answer, but basically it looks some of Book 6 is leaking into Season 5.
Not really so much as Hardhome takes place off camera without a POV at all. Snow isn’t there at all - he’s back at the Wall, where he belongs. Snow hears of the results of it IIRC (and I may not).
Season 1 & 2 Blu-Ray and DVD packs on Amazon are roughly 60% off today.

Said in the trailer that it will premier in Apple TV and iPad. What does it mean? It will be available in iTunes on Day 1?
They mean this. HBO GO without a cable subscription is for Apple devices (and web browser, apparently) only, at least for the first 3 months.
