Next week, my vow is to not look for any comparisons to the book and let the episode stand on its own merit…that’ll work out, right?
At least it makes sense location wise. It’s the Crossroads; it literally is at the geographic center of all the important things going on.
A Tatooine of the series would be more like if all these critical events kept happening on Bear Island.
Anybody else feel like (for all the awesome shit that they’re doing, which is a lot and I do love the show so far) they’re doing kind of a crap job talking about the passage of time? Bran’s in a coma for like a month, but it might as well have been a day and a half as far as the viewer is informed. All four of us watching together had that same reaction last night.
Well, the wolf-pups got really big in a couple of days…
The wolf pups and Jon’s facial hair are good indicators of time passage.
Time is one of the many things they’ve been subtle about. (There’s no “one month later” title card here!) Hell, have they even named dropped Cersei’s name yet?

How quickly do wolves/dogs grow. I have no idea. They did say that Catelyn had been by Bran’s side for a month.

At one point didn’t someone remark he’d been out for a month? I seem to remember maybe his mother say that when she declared she was going to set off for king’s landing. Someone definitely aid something, because I recall being surprised how long it had been. Seemed like maybe a week.
In the first episode when we see Summer later in the episode, all gangly and no longer quite the puppy he was when first found in the woods, someone actually comments on how quickly they’re growing.
I wonder why.

Someone here raised wolf hybrids and I remember talking to him about the requirements and differences from dogs. I assume they probably do not, in RL, have an accelerated growth rate. :)
I have always loved wolves and that was one of the highlights of the books for me. So, them being gone is a bit more of an issue for me maybe.
Man if ppl are getting that upset about the dogs this early in the series they are going to be floored when the “shit really hits the fan”.

Did those forums have a problem with the rape of a young girl by a savage tribe? Granted, I am not sure her age is disclosed in the show.

They should have shown Catelyn feeding him during the coma. It was weird, like he was in an enchanted slumber rather than a coma induced by massive trauma.
Yes, he should have looked at least a bit ill. His face was too rigid and clean.
Anyway, the child actors are doing a good job in this series. No cringe-inducing moments yet.
I love the EW weekly recaps, that writer is very clever and he nails both the actual recap of information viewers needed to take away from each episode while sprinkling it with a ton of funny comments.
Loved the second episode so much I watched it twice in a row. The interactions between characters are really well done, especially in the scenes at the Inn at the Crossroads and along the riverbank. The ending was once again perfectly placed, and while I can see outrage form non-readers, they need to realize what they’re getting into…
I think Dany is the weakest link in the series right now. That’s a shame, because in the book she was one of the more interesting characters. I think it’s a combination of the writers not really being able to convey all that needs to be conveyed for viewers to “get” Dany, and the actress herself not really being up to the task. The scene with her handmaid Doreh for example was almost cringeworthy.
On the other hand, the scenes with Tyrion and Jon are fantastic. Both actors are doing a great job with their characters and I think are really going to draw in the non-readers (as it should be). But the most amazing acting job of all, and the biggest scene stealer, is most certainly Arya. Holy crap, this little girl can act! It’s not just in the scenes where she has to look adorable either, as she nailed the river bank scene, which used a range of emotions, and then even in the trial scene where she wasn’t speaking her facial expressions were perfect, ranging from petulant fear, to growing dismay and finally all out anger followed by sorrow. I don’t know where they found the girl playing Arya, but if she keeps this up she should be on the short list for an Emmy.
It’s not and it can’t be. Even pretending that adult actor is less than 18 and engaging in sexual anything (not kissing) is considered child pornography under US law.
I don’t believe that that was the Crossroads Inn. In the books it was the castle Raymun Darry, which gave Martin a chance to go on about Robert’s rebellion and how things a little awkward since Raymun fought on the wrong side. In the show they didn’t bother (or really have time) to go into that, but I’m still pretty sure it wasn’t the inn. It looked more like a tent.
Someone better tell the people who made this movie that they’re all about to be arrested, then. Poor Dakota. She won’t do well in prison.
I was a little disappointed that they glazed over the bit about Bran getting better with summer near and worse when he was kept away. They missed an opportunity to highlight the mystical/magical bond between the direwolves and the Stark children.
What’s your source for this statement? Also, could you clarify “it’s not and it can’t be”?
They telegraphed this plenty already. My wife knows nothing of the books. When Bran opened the eyes at the end of the episode, she turned to me and said “so he’s got some kind of magic connection with the wolves?”.

Dany bored me at first when I read Game of Thrones. It wasn’t until she settled into the Dothraki that I began to find her interesting and it probably wasn’t until the eggs began to feel warm to her, etc… that I really took interest. She’s a weak link in the show right now for the same reason, I think – she just seems distant and unrelated. Even Ned is reinforcing that. I suspect her part of the series will improve as her character matures.
