I’m new, but I would like to propose you a new game. It’s an idea I had some months ago, and I’ve been playing it quite a bit with one of my friends.
The concept is very simple, some would say minimalistic:
I think of a movie, and establish a list of 5 elements that appear in it, or that I associate with the movie. These elements can of course be objects, but also names, concepts, sentiments, etc. Then, you try to guess which movie I’m thinking about. After a certain period, if nobody has found the right film and if the players are asking for it, I give another element.
It’s then up to the person who has found the right movie to think of a new one, establish a list, etc. If nobody did, well, I guess I have to find a new movie.
I guarantee that it is actually easier than it sounds. Obviously, if you have any suggestions on how to improve it, we can change the rules the way we want to.
Here are some examples of (easy) lists of elements, to get a clearer picture of what I poorly tried to explain (I chose well known or recent movies for my examples):
Pulp Fiction :
Hamburger
BDSM
Racial Slur
Fictional Brand
Band-aid/Sticking plaster
The Irishman :
Blue eyes
Flashbacks
Conflicting friendships
JFK
Cereals
No Country for Old Men :
Coin
Cowboy
Ventilation ducts
Silencer
Car accident
Atomic Blonde :
(Great) Soundtrack from the 80’s
Bruises
Umbrellas
“John-le-Carréesque”
Stalker
So, in order to start the topic, here’s my first list:
Quite far from it I’m afraid. But very nice try - the ceremony, California etc. However, does Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult really contain a long take ?
I don’t have a good reason, mainly the nudity and California parts I guess. Plus I figured Paul Thomas Anderson probably had a long take in there somewhere. It was the first thing that popped in my head, really.
@Buckaroo has sent me a PM. He is at his new user posting limit but wanted me to post this:
Yes ! It is Boogie Nights indeed! A favourite of mine! Nice job!
The awards ceremony is actually something like “the porn industry awards”.
Divedivedive, I couldn’t emphasize how great was your intuition with The Master, and especially the reasons you gave, without bringing to much attention on Boogie Nights, but it is exactly why I love this game.
Arrendek, if you have time, you can try. It’s very easy really, just find 5 elements that come to your mind when thinking about a specific movie. It doesn’t have to be easy, or representative.
@stusser@tomchick Can we give this guy full posting privileges? Not every day a new user shows up and adds something to the community like this. :)
If anyone else is ready to jump on this, please go ahead and post. I will commence with the thinking about it my dumb self and see if I can come up with anything.
