Some of those fit Terminator, but I don’t recall a dance in that.

There was some dancing in Terminator. Not in the grim post-apocalyptic future, of course, but I think some goths, New Romantics, and cyberpunks were getting a groove on in the Tech Noir nightclub. But I’m thinking of another movie.

Don’t think that’s what you’re looking for, but most of those clues fit The Matrix Reloaded.

Oh, I don’t know, I think all those clues perfectly fit for me.

A keyring

The doomed ally AI The Keymaker (as opposed to Ghostbusters’ The Keymaster) had a big ol’ keyring which, I suppose, symbolized cracks, hacks, and backdoor accesses to cyberspace.

A playground

A fine meeting place for a portly old lady AI and a big burly brawl with dozens of cancerous AI cells.

A slice of cake

The path to a man’s heart is through his stomach and this technomagic cake will find the way a woman’s heart through somewhere lower.

A semi

The roof of a trailer pulled by a semi makes for a great place for a fistfight.

A dance

Zion High School put on their “Enchantment Under The Earth” dance to mark one more chance for human pleasure and comradeship before the metal ones came to slaughter them all.

A fine job, @BellaConfusione! I still hold that the Matrix sequels were Just Fine, though there are plenty of people that refuse to believe they existed, and more that think that the second movie was awful, and still more that think that the third movie was awful. And there are even some people that can’t stand any of the Matrix movies, the poor dears. I do believe that Reloaded and Revolutions would have been better if Barrie M. Osborne had stayed on in his Producer role. (He was the producer for the first Matrix movie.) But he jumped ship for the Lord of the Rings movies, and those wound up being terrific instead.

Reloaded is incomplete. It could have been fine if the third stuck the landing.

But it didn’t. Which retroactively made 2 suck.

Pollock?

Nope45

Tempted to say Sexy Beast, but it’s already been done, so, um, Swimming Pool?

Not Swimming Pool.

Picnic at Hanging Rock?

Negative

Rushmore?

Ooh, I like that guess. Don’t remember policemen off the top of my head, but I wouldn’t be surprised. The others fit, I think.

I thought maybe there were policemen during the tree-cutting/breaking ground on the pool, or in the immediate aftermath. I might be misremembering.

You’re probably right. As discussed upthread, I have a terrible memory.

Good guess and there certainly are police officers in Rushmore: they escort Max out of class after Mr. Blume reports him follwing Max’s bee and brake cord cutting revenge on Blume. But it’s not that.
I’ll let the Americans wake up and post more clues later.
