One or two of the first five clues might not be that good as I was too focused on alliteration.

I can’t think of any movies with fried chicken picnics, but there may have been a picnic in… Kentucky Fried Movie.

It’s the only one I can think of and for some reason that detail was memorable to me. But it’s not Kentucky Fried Movie.

How would one even have a picnic with fried chicken? Wouldn’t the drumsticks be cold and soggy?

Gross.

Maybe that’s a British movie…

Some people like cold fried chicken. Refrigerate overnight.

I don’t recall a picnic, certainly not with gross cold fried chicken, but the rest of the clues fit for Se7en…

Good guess, but no.

Is this this Barton Fink? I guessed Barton Fink before and was wrong, maybe I got it right this time.

Oh, hang on, is it Oh Brother Where Art Thou?

@Gladguy was on the right track, but this is the other “What’s in the box?” movie.

Very much so. Barton Fink has been guessed a lot in this game, so I figured it’s very top of mind and went with a few clues that aren’t exactly central to the movie. I’ll explain them later today.

  • Play - The movie opens with the performance of one of Fink’s socially minded, Odets-like plays on Broadway.

  • Painting - Upon arriving in Hollywood, Fink moves into a sparely furnished room at the Hotel Earle. The sole piece of decoration is a painting of a woman sitting at the beach, which he will stare at incessantly during times of writer’s block and self doubt.

  • Picnic with fried chicken - Barton has a picnic with hard drinking Southern author and Faulkner proxy W.P. Mayhew and his assistant Audrey.

  • Pool - Fink meets with the head of Capitol pictures, where the writer is king, at his lavish estate’s pool to report on the progress of his B-wrestling-movie. Barton has little to report but still gets his feet kissed.

  • Policemen - Following a murder, Barton is visited by the axis detectives Deutsch and Mastrionotti.

  • Box - Barton’s neighbour leaves him a box. People wonder what’s in it.

  • Mosquito - Barton is tortured with sleep depravation by a mosquito.

So, Rosemary’s Baby, a movie about by awful people:

Friendly neighbors: The Castevets next door are happy to welcome the new tenants to the Bramford building.

A struggling actor: Guy Woodhouse has acted in a couple of plays, and a lot of TV and radio. But a new career opportunity comes up early in the movie.

Suspicious food: Minnie Castevet is constantly trying to feed her new neighbors. The food is good, but has a chalky undertaste.

Conspiracy: The audience figures pretty early in the movie the Castevets are up to no good. But who else might be in on it? Turns out everyone is in on it. All of them Witches.

Strange eyes: He has his father’s eyes.

If Rosemary could figure out hints as quickly as @BellaConfusione, the movie would have had a running time around ten minutes.
