OK then… another clue
-Pitches
-Painter
-Puddle
-Postcards
-Pasadena Police
-Posters
-Prison Protest
-Palm(s)
-Perpetrator Protagonist
I am not convinced at all, as I can barely have it fitting some of the clues, but could it be The Player?
I think Tim Robbins has his “altercation” in Pasadena, and he pushes a guy in a puddle, isn’t it ? Thus, he becomes a perpetrator protagonist, and he then receives threatening postcards. The pitches have to be “movie pitches”. He probably has many movie posters in his office… oh wait, that does fit many clues actually!
I imagine the palm(s) clue refers to some awards (eg. Cannes). However, I have no idea what the prison protest is.
Woo! It is indeed one of my favorite movies - Robert Altman’s “comeback” movie - The Player. Let me explain all the clues:
-Pitches - Mills (Tim Robbins) job is to listen to movie pitches and pass on the ones he likes
-Painter - the widow of the writer he murders is a Painter
-Puddle - that he drowns a writer in
-Postcards - the threatening postcards that Mills keeps receiving (and he wrongly blamed the deceased writer for)
-Pasadena Police - are convinced Mills did it… but can’t prove it. They follow him (Lyle Lovett), and bring him in for an off-putting session of questioning (Whoopi Goldberg) - ending with mocking laughter, and eventually a lineup as he is accused of murder.
-Posters - the movie is full of background movie posters that make sly commentary on Mills situation
-Prison Protest - the primary movie-within-the movie - Habeus Corpus, is pitched on the Prison Protest scene - a vigil outside a prison as someone is about to be wrongly executed. Both the pitch, and the final scene as filmed are prominent in the movie
-Palm(s) - Palm trees of course, but primarily Two Bunch Palms - the resort outside of Palm Desert where he retreats with his new girlfriend (the writers widow) for some spectacular consuption.
-Perpetrator Protagonist - the Protagonist is a murderer and outright villain - the “sympathetic” or “heroes” portrayal (and his character arc) are extremely unusual in popular cinema :)
Fun fact - The Player still holds the record for most Oscar Winners in a movie - as it has something like 70 cameos of actual stars hanging out and having fun, as well as the actual actors playing characters.
Fantastic movie! I have to watch it again though, I had completely forgotten the Prison Protest clue.
The new entry (sorry, no alliterations here!):
- A jump from a balcony
- An oath
- A well-known sporting event
- A keychain
- A screaming contest
Nope! Mel jumps from a rooftop, if my memory serves me well.
Nope. Actually, I had used Atomic Blonde as an example in the very first post of this game.
No, but being a Mifune completionist, I will have to see Grand Prix one day.
It’s not really from another country, and I haven’t seen it, but Munich?
Nope! No trap in the seventh clue, it’s a straightforward one.
I had a long post, but actually I think I might have it.
I grant you a second immediate guess then!
