A few clues back I did actually think the movie might be a BttF, but I could only make it (partly) work by spanning multiple films.

Oh thank goodness :)

Yes - it was Peter Jackson’s 1996 movie, The Frighteners - starring Michael J Fox as a widowed architect who can see ghosts. Together with the spirits of the first three spirits (1970’s Gangsta ,1950’s Nerd, and the Old West Gunslinger , he rips off people by cleansing their houses of “hauntings”, while he lives in the wreck of the house he was building when his wife died - and he can never bring himself to complete.

Other major characters include a couple - a doctor and the fitness enthusiast - who are targeted by a deceased serial killer (The Grim Reaper), who is being assisted by a Serial Killer Groupie. The Fitness Enthusiast and Newspaper Editor die at the hands of the Grim Reaper - the deaths are blamed on Fox’s character.

The Master Sergeant is the spirit protecting the local graveyard, and Jeffrey Comb’s FBI Agent thinks he’s Fox Mulder… but he’s just a loon with a badge, LOL.

I haven’t seen that one since renting it on tape as a kid. I was something of a bigot back then, unfortunately. I kept thinking, why does Michael J. Fox have to be in a movie set in this New Zealand place? Isn’t America good enough for him?

(Yes, I later learned that Fox was from E-Town. And learned to respect the New Zealand film industry.)

Here’s the next one, which has been done before but it was a long time ago:

  • Undercover?
  • .45 or…?
  • What exit?
  • Schubert?
  • What’s that name mean?

Out of Sight?

Yeah, all too easy, but such a great movie.

Roughly:

  • “Tell me,” Cop Dad Dennis Farina says to Michael Keaton wearing an FBI T-shirt, “Have you ever worn one that says Undercover?” “…no.”

  • “Do you want the .45 or the Glock?”

  • “Those guys are going to be so disappointed in me.” “Take that exit!” “What exit? I don’t even see an exit!”

  • “Bitch, what kind of music you listen to?” “I like Schubert.” “Schubert? Well, I don’t!”

  • “What kind of name is Hejira?” “It’s Islamic.” “What’s it mean?” “The Hejira was Mohammed’s flight from Mecca in 632.”

I couldn’t specifically match most of the clues, but Schubert triggered it for me. I love Isaiah Washington’s line reading on “Schubert? Well, I don’t!”

  5. Not many rains to bless here
A reference to the dryness of the setting + the Toto soundtrack

If it wasn’t for the third clue, I would have said No Sudden Moves. Hmm… True story, last five years?

Yup. Not No Sudden Moves.

  • Wedding Crashers, with invites.
  • Nick Miller, Don Draper, Clint Barton, Andy Bernard, and… Coach Wilson, I guess, hang out.

Tag! You’re it!

Or… I guess, more correctly, I’m it.

Huh. Never even heard of it, and I’m a Hamm fan.

You’re it, all right, but no tagbacks, okay?

It’s inessential and fun bro-medy. I wouldn’t not recommend it.

interesting behind-the-scenes cast trivia

True. Adapted from a Wall Street Journal article.

interesting behind-the-scenes cast trivia

Jeremy Renner, playing Tag, was in a stunt that went so awry he, the actor, broke both his arms (i.e. they were in casts – painted green, even) and had to be replaced with CGI.

Came out and set in the last five years but its heart is planted, Jesus, twenty or thirty years ago. Closer to thirty, good God, how did we get so old?

'Cause they started playing as kids, see. Back in the good old days.

Get before you get got

The rules of the game. Well, if you’re It, then you Tag, then They’re It, so if you’re Not It, Run Away From He or She Who Is It.

Not related to popular Stephen King movies

That is, not It.

Wedding Crashers, with invites.

A wedding pins down the plot

Nick Miller, Don Draper, Clint Barton, Andy Bernard, and… Coach Wilson, I guess, hang out.

Actors you know from other stuff and also Hannibal Buress!
