Bunch of Burt Reynolds fans up in here, I see! Just remember, there is no role that wouldn’t be better served by casting Daniel Day-Lewis. Are you now imagining what a masterpiece Smokey and the Bandit could have been? I know I am.

I was about to scoff and say that if Daniel Day-Lewis played the Bandit, he’d have to sit on a stack of phonebooks to see over the wheel, because he must have been a little kid back then. Then I looked it up and he would have been 19 or 20. It would have been a different role than how Burt played it but not impossible. I wouldn’t have been as squicked out with how Bandit picked up Sally Field.

Now I’m wondering how Daniel Day-Lewis would have played Baby in Baby Driver. Probably with grace and aplomb.

Anyway, is the movie Any Given Sunday?

Good intuition, but wrong Sharks!

These are the Sharks we’re looking for! A movie about a game you have to be American to (pretend to) understand, and that doesn’t make much sense to the rest of the world.

  1. Alligator : after a game, a player bring an alligator in the showers. Where from? Was the gator in his locker during the entire game? We’ll probably never know, but l keep wondering till this day.
  2. Circular Saw : Lawrence Taylor (the greatest defensive player in the history of American football according to Wikipedia) uses such a saw to cut Beamen’s SUV in half.
  3. Eyeball : lost by a player during a game.
  4. Testosterone : l could have said roids…
  5. Numbers : the combinations used by Beamen, a quaterback.
  6. Sharks : the name of the team, which l think refers to the Miami Dolphins?

Anyway, l never knew what to make of this movie. Understanding a thing or two about American football would probably help though. l guess l’ll stick with rugby.

I don’t have too much more to say about Any Given Sunday than I did when it showed up in my 3x3 eyeball picks. I don’t know a cornerback from a tight end, but the one time I saw it, I was surprisingly moved. Maybe I should watch it again.

The two mammals looked great, but i always wondered if it would be dangerous to walk around on that beach barefoot.

While in Miami, the newest James Bond drops by one of Gunther von Hagens’ Body Worlds traveling exhibits. For all the body counts counting up in the previous Bond films, I think this was the first time actual corpses were on set.

Bond moved his wristwatch brand loyalties from Rolex to Seiko to, here, Omega.

I think in the previous Bond movie, Die Another Day, Pierce Brosnan gets off a plane in Korea and is immediately made by local counter-intelligence as Bond, James Bond. It’s better for a secret agent to wander the world unnoticed, but the kickass title song lets us know that he knows that we know his name.
