That Doom book on nothings.org is absolutely hilarious, but on the note of Doom books I actually own the first of four in a series written by Dafydd ab Hugh and I thought it was pretty damn good. It includes lots of the iconic imagery from the games (like the upside-down cross that hurts you on the first level of Episode 2) and actually had kind of a story, too. So I dunno, I think good gaming novels do exist but yeah, that article about them is pretty silly.
