Where are your stats to back this up? I read a lot of gaming blogs. They all post tens if not hundreds of articles per day. Maybe a couple of them during a given week are about this topic when horrific events like those in the last few weeks aren’t actively happening and deserving of being reported on and written about. Even then, it’s practically nothing compared to the usual coverage.

There should be far more criticism of homophobia and other characteristics of professional sports than there are right now.

You’re completely inventing nonexistent scenarios and straw men. No significant segment of game journalism condemned all gaming fans. No one called their readers assholes. No one is generalizing gaming fans like you describe.
If you think that a significant portion of the gaming press is doing such things, you’re reading your own intent into their words rather than actually listening to what they’ve said.
Ok, never mind. I’m out. What an awful mischaracterization. I’ve watched most of her videos and your description is so far off-base I don’t even know where to start, other than to presume you haven’t watched them and are instead just assuming that those harassing Anita have accurately described her.
I disagree with a lot of the points she makes, but holy shit “hostile”? Really? That’s basically the epitome of misogynist characterizations of women that are never applied to men for equal reasons.
Your excessive use of “SJW”, your description of Anita as “hostile”, and your rosy overly-optimistic picture of how homophobia and other harassment issues are dealt with in professional sports (literally one day after the Ray Rice debacle, for fuck’s sake) are just…hilarious.
Jesus, using professional sports as the beacon of quality in dealing with matters of homophobia and misogyny. I think I’ve seen it all.

He’s too busy labeling people to really have a conversation. Apparently if you’re a woman, we’re back to having show show game creds somehow or else what we say doesn’t matter.
While taxes are a necessary evil, they are coerced payments. If someone wants to “call” for more taxes that’s their right.
The problem with many SJWs is that they seem to jump at any opportunity to punish other people who they deem have incorrect opinions. I,e if they can get someone fired (Mozilla) or harm them economically they consider that just fine. That isn’t to say I don’t think people have the right to do that, but one cant exactly preach tolerance while turning every economic activity into a political litmus test.

Brad you honestly think a CEO with a strong backing couldn’t get past a six year old 1000 dollar donation if they tried? It doesn’t look like they tried at all. This guy didn’t have the backing of the board or the shareholders enough to beat something that is pretty minor. There are thousands of people who would have donated to these kind of propositions, public information, and some of them are rich and in charge of companies. There is a lot more going on with the Mozilla case. People run multi-million dollar companies with similar views every day and don’t get fired or have to resign from it. Also, he wasn’t attacked for what he was, but what he thought. That is a major difference. He made a choice, and it was certainly his choice to make, but he wasn’t attacked for being born the wrong sex or wrong color.

Your very first point, that no one is denying the harassment is untrue. “No one” is a pretty strong absolute. I can’t provide links because I haven’t taken the time to document it but I have seen posts on #gamergate more than once claiming that the movement self-polices itself very well and that the women concerned are making up the claims of harassment. Furthermore, if the harassment is real, why shouldn’t that be a cause for concern and attention? It’s like you’re saying: yes, they are being harassed, but why should the media and commentators pay attention to them because of that? There are plenty of figures in history whose main claim to fame is their victimization and who subsequently used that celebrity-hood to campaign for their pet causes.

On the one hand, she might well be saying one thing to one crowd and saying another thing to another. But otoh, creepy synthetic text-to-conspiracy speech.
A lot of good points, and others I don’t agree with, which is fine…
I’m however a little baffled by your call to a more objective gaming press. I don’t really know how that’s even possible when talking about games. If anything, I see it fragmenting, with different sites attracting people with different politics.
Film and literature reviews/press have done fine being as subjective as they are.

The problem is given how politicized things are, it leads to echo chambers.
I suspect the legacy of Gamersgate is going to be a push in the direction of echo chambers.

I like his methodology. The issue with it, I suspect, is that it includes everything from those sites – including the huge number of articles that are essentially reprinted press releases (or snarky commentaries that include the reprinted press releases), game previews, etc. Most of those articles have essentially no worthwhile content – let alone commentary – and so it’s somewhat misleading to claim that since less than half a percentage of all articles talk about feminism.
When you talk about editorial content, my personal impression is that it has been dominated by the feminism/sexism/misogyny agenda for the last two years or so. I admit I don’t read nearly as much “gaming journalism” as some folks, but the feminism/sexism/misogyny drumbeat has, at least in what I’ve read, drowned out most other editorial topics (racism, politics, general stereotyping, developer working conditions, understanding how the sausage is made, etc.)
What’s unfortunate about this, in my mind, is that I suspect this ends up all blowing over in another year or two as gaming “journalists” glom on to the next crusade. There are real issues around sexism and misogyny in games, but since the sort of “debate” we’re having now only touches on this stuff in the most superficial fashion, those issues seem unlikely to be addressed.
You know videogames have “made it” when people start speculating about conspiracies of cabals controlling the agenda of the press or that the press is primarily composed of one monolithic interest group. I wonder if it is the same group that infiltrated broadcast media, newspapers, and cinema in the 20th century?

We just heard a fascinating and disturbing study, where they looked at the ratio of men and women in groups. And they found that if there’s 17 percent women, the men in the group think it’s 50-50. And if there’s 33 percent women, the men perceive that as there being more women in the room than men.
You sure that’s not the case here? That you personally take offense to discussions about misogyny, feminist causes, etc. and therefore are considering it to have a louder voice than it actually does?

And I love how, on top of all that, it still got a 5/10. If that doesn’t prove all the ratings are worthless, nothing will.
Pretty minor? There was a massive uproar about his “homophobia” and this ultimately put enough pressure on them to change CEOs. There was an endless stream of demands to remove him.
You’re right though, he wasn’t attacked for being born with the wrong sex or the wrong color. He was attacked for having the wrong beliefs. That is what SJWs take pride in: You can believe what you want but we will make sure you suffer economic consequences for them. This is similar to the far right religious people except their threshold seems to be a lot higher.
Somewhere, Mark Twain is smiling.
