Games Journalism 2017: Gaming news in a post-truth world

Haha, and look at Thief: Deadly Shadows up there at #297.

EDIT: I’ve noticed that some of the entries descriptions seem to have been written by people not even familiar with the games they’re describing.

There’s no Amiga “exclusive” games, whatever that would mean, but there’s plenty of games that were playable on Amiga - eg Football Manager, MULE, Street Fighter 2, Sim City. There’s lots that should be on there that aren’t, I’ll grant, but that’s what you’re going to get from US publication.

I saw an Amiga in a computer store display once. I think it was running one of those colorful bouncing ball screensavers.

What about Run-DMC Dante? Is he the fresh one?

Bayonetta

He’s tricky!

It’s working!

I think everyone has at least some kind of click bait that they are particularly susceptible to. Even here, where we have pretty good awareness of what constitutes click bait. “Kim Kardashian’s response to paparazzi will have you in TEARS” probably bounces right off of us, but “Top 500 Games of All Time” attracts us like moths to a flame.

Hey that reminds me, nobody has yet commented on Kim Kardashian’s mobile game being on the top 500 games list! Someone’s gotta be pissed.

I agree - And click-bait articles aren’t necessarily poor articles, actually - In fact, most articles online are there to generate traffic in some form. Some are just more deviously designed and with that specific purpose in mind, than others - like these kind of lists.

Is this a wumpus alt account?

What? You are responding to a 2 month old reply with a title of a game and providing no opinion or actual, you know, conversation? So are you agreeing or disagreeing that art, music or style can easily turn someone away from a game.

For me, yes?

For “best-of” lists, I tend to look forward to RPS’s Advent Calendar - where each day they spend some time gushing about one of the year’s released they like. It all tends to be pretty positive and enjoyable and reminds me why I like gaming.

sigh

Maybe don’t hire people to socialise with them then.

Would you feel better about it if we called them “therapy models”?

I’d love to know who and what this request was for.

The first person who opens up a hostess club in San Fransisco is going to make a lot of money.

They already exist, and keep getting busted by the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control of all agencies.

Anyone in need of some gaming supplements? Man, it’s so sad to see how far 3DR’s Scott Miller has fallen in recent years.

Pfft, like serious gamers can’t just take adderall.

I just cook down Mountain Dew and Dorito powder into rocks, melt it in a spoon, and shoot it into my tear ducts. You know, like a real gamer.

You should start a gamers cookbook, trying this tonight.
